PGA 2024: Justin Thomas authors unreal hole-out to entertain locals at Valhalla

There have been a lot of hole-outs this week at Valhalla Golf Club. But, with respect to Scottie Scheffler’s eagle at the par-4 first on Thursday, Justin Thomas might have authored the best one.

The Kentucky native gave the locals a reason to celebrate when he birdied No. 14 on Saturday at the PGA Championship. This, however, wasn’t your garden variety chip-in. On the 256-yard par-3, Thomas hit his tee shot left, onto the top of a hill and into the long, wispy grass.

Thomas then did this:

"I just double-crossed a 5-wood. I was trying to cut it in there and hit it in arguably is one of the worst spots you can," Thomas said.

"But it goes back to what I was saying earlier this week; that shot is doable when the greens are soft. If they're normal or firm, I can't keep that on the green. I just tried to hit it as high as I could because I was into the wind to try to get it to land soft, and as soon as it started rolling, I knew it had a chance, or at least it was on a good line. For that to go in was beyond a bonus."

The birdie, on the heels of a bogey at the 12^th, got the two-time PGA champion back to 9 under par. He finished his day with a more routine birdie at the par-5 18th — two putts from 11 feet — to shoot 67 and reach 10 under, five off the 54-hole lead.
