Here is a 2024 NFL draft pick-by-pick breakdown for the Indianapolis Colts:
Round 1 (No. 15 overall) — Laiatu Latu, DE, UCLA: And the defense is finally on the board after a record 14 consecutive players were picked on the other side of the ball. The Pac-12’s defensive player of the year in 2023 – when he also earned the Lombardi Award and Ted Hendricks Award for being the country’s best collegiate defensive end while posting an FBS-best 1.8 tackles for loss per game – Latu racked up 35 TFLs, 23½ sacks, five forced fumbles and a pair of interceptions in two seasons with the Bruins. A neck injury suffered while he attended the University of Washington temporarily relegated him to medical retirement, but Latu said at the scouting combine that his medical reports suggest he's no longer at high risk. (He also said he was already considering a career in firefighting just in case.)
He's almost certainly this year’s most advanced, productive and versatile pass rusher and an immediate counterpunch to a division that features QBs Trevor Lawrence and C.J. Stroud. Indy suddenly has a pretty deep pass rush with Latu, DE Kwity Paye and veteran DT DeForest Buckner. Draft tracker
Round 2 (52, from Rams through Panthers) — Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas: He should immediately form a nice tandem with Michael Pittman Jr. as reliable targets for second-year QB Anthony Richardson. Mitchell has Velcro hands, postseason bona fides, size (6-2, 205) and exceptional speed (4.34 40 time). A Georgia transfer, Mitchell found the end zone 11 times during his only season with the Longhorns. Draft tracker
Round 3 (79, from Jaguars through Falcons and Cardinals) — Matt Goncalves, OT, Pittsburgh: Could be a swing tackle here, though his strength might also signal a move inside. Didn't surrender a sack the past two seasons. Draft tracker
Round 4 (117) — Tanor Bortolini, C, Wisconsin: Unsurprisingly, the uber-athletic Bortolini gets swooped up by Indianapolis here. He was an outstanding tester at the combine and fits easily into zone schemes with his movement skills and balance. His short arms and smaller wingspan overall does give some pause, but he could develop into a center of the future for the Colts. Draft tracker
Round 5 (142, from Titans through Panthers) — Anthony Gould, WR, Oregon State: Gould spent the vast majority of his time with the Beavers at outside wide receiver despite standing 5-8 and weighing 174 pounds. He's one of the fastest wideouts in the class and could be one of the best returners on the team as a rookie. Draft tracker
Round 5 (151) — Jaylon Carlies, S, Missouri: At 6 feet, 2 inches tall and 227 pounds, Carlies is a bit of a tweener who could transition from safety to linebacker for Indianapolis. He led Missouri in tackles in 2022 and 2023 and has the straight line speed to be a productive player in both run defense and coverage. He has struggled at times in zone schemes and this feels like a bit of a reach for a prospect without a set position. Draft tracker
Round 5 (164, from Lions through Eagles) — Jaylin Simpson, S, Auburn: Simpson's career year in 2023 showed what he can do on the back end at corner. He tallied four interceptions and seven passes defensed with one of the best coverage grades on the team. His smaller frame could hold him back in press coverage but his ball skills and speed make him a solid special teamer at worst. Draft tracker
Round 6 (201, from Buccaneers through Lions and Eagles) — Micah Abraham, CB, Marshall: Abraham has the athleticism the Colts often look for across the board with 4.43 speed. He's the son of an NFL player and had very good ball production in college with 12 career interceptions. His size is the only knock at 5-9 which is why he can be outmuscled on routes by bigger receivers. Draft tracker
Round 7 (234) — Jonah Laulu, DT, Oklahoma: Laulu offers the athleticism Indianapolis loves from its prospects. At 6-5 and 292 pounds, Laulu posted a 4.96-second 40-yard dash at the combine. His jumps were impressive as well. With his height and above-average wingspan, he's a solid developmental choice for the Colts inside. Draft tracker
