Ida, Dundee, Summerfield girls, Bedford Erie Mason boys victorious

ERIE – McKenna Tarry didn’t record a single point for the first 31 minutes and 47 seconds of Ida’s girls basketball contest against Erie Mason Tuesday night.

With just 13 seconds left, Tarry grabbed a loose ball under the basket and put up a shot to score her first bucket of the night.

It turned into a game winner, giving Ida a 48-47 road victory.

Jessica Schrader dropped 17 points and Reese Hennessey added 12 points for Ida.

Zoie Stubleski poured in 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Eagles.

“She (Stubleski) continues to put up great numbers and improve each game,” Mason coach Josh Sweigart said.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Karner leads Dundee

MONROE – Dundee trailed after each of the first three quarters, but came to life in the final period for a 47-39 comeback victory against Jefferson Tuesday night.

Kendall Karner scored 8 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter to lead the comeback.

“Kendall Karner played the best game of her varsity career,” Dundee coach Jay Briggs said.

Clair Boggs led the Bears with 14 points, while Anna Boggs chipped in 10 points.

HUDSON – Summerfield returned to action with its first game in 10 days, earning a 52-49 win over Hudson Tuesday.

Sophomore Mayley Mannebach torched the Hudson defense for 7 3-pointers on her way to a 27-point performance.

“Mayley played a great game I can’t say enough of how proud I am for her. She was money from the 3-point line,” coach Mickey Moody said.

Jaeli Jones added 13 points for the 5-4 Bulldogs.

BOYS BASKETBALL

State-ranked foe tops SMCC

MONROE – St. Mary Catholic Central fell just short in a 60-55 loss to state-ranked Allen Park Inter-City Baptist Tuesday night.

"We played a pretty solid game for the most part," said SMCC coach Randy Windham. "We are very close, but we are about three or four possessions away from being pretty good. The little things matter and we are notdoing those things. Coaches and players, we all have to be better."

Buddy Snodgrass scored half of his team-high 20 points in the second quarter to lead the Falcons. Ian Foster added 15 points for SMCC, hitting a trio of 3-pointers, and Brady Hines scored 10 points.

Snyder sparks Bedford

TEMPERANCE – Kajon Snyder scored 9 points in the third quarter to give the Mules some breathing room heading into the final period of a 55-51 win over Detroit Henry Ford Tuesday.

Snyder led Bedford (2-7) with 12 points and Jace Williams scored 11.

Summerfield comes back

ADRIAN – Lenawee Christian exploded for 24 points in the first quarter, but Summerfield fought back to take a 39-36 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs were outscored 19-10 in the fourth quarter and fell 69-62 Tuesday night.

“LCS had a great start that put us in a hole, one that we were able to crawl out of, but we did it again to ourselves in the fourth quarter again,” Summerfield coach Phil Schiffler said.

Tyler Dafoe and Jha Jha Hornbeak each scored 19 points for 9-3 Summerfield.

Freshman sparks Eagles

MORENCI – Freshman David Sweeney scored the first 9 points of his varsity career as Erie Mason cruised past Morenci 59-37 Tuesday.

“Nice program win where everyone got in and played a quarter,” Mason coach Kevin Skaggs said. “We started out a bit slow in the first quarter but put up 24-2nd quarter points while holding Morenci to 7.”

It was the second consecutive win for the 3-7 Eagles. Xavier Wise led with 11 points and Logan Goodin added 10.

PREP SWIMMING

Mason-Ida tops Bedford

ERIE – Erie Mason won all but one event in a 115-65 victory over Bedford Tuesday night.

Mason Reynolds (individual medley, 500-yard freestyle) and Cameron Tross (50, 100 freestyle) each won two individual events and swam on two winning relays.

Other individual winners were Bowie Jacobs, Aaron Koehn, Garrett Wall and Luke Small (diving).

Pirates scuttle Dundee

RIVERVIEW – Drew Bylow qualified for the state finals in the butterfly and 50-yard freestyle and set a pool record in the butterfly for Dundee in a 101-83 loss to Riverview Tuesday.

The 2-2 Vikings had 32 personal-best times and had Lukas Neikirk and Aaron Brewer go 1-2 in diving.

PREP HOCKEY

Trythall scores two

SOUTHGATE – Airport student Jake Trythall scored a pair of goals Tuesday to lead New Boston United to a 4-2 victory over Downriver Unified.

Matthew Croteau had the other two goals.

St. Mary Catholic Central’s Jason Hawkins and Brady Deckert scored for Downriver Unified.

PREP BOWLING

Monroe sweeps Saline

MONROE – Monroe’s girls beat Saline 28-2 and the boys won 23-7 Tuesday at Monroe Sport Center.

Kaden Stumpmeir (223), Camron Cadle (213) and LJ Robertson (210, 207) all rolled 200 games for the boys.

Saline won the junior varsity boys match 21-9.
