High school roundup: Woodridge sweeps Springfield and Coventry in wrestling

WRESTLING

Woodridge 76, Springfield 6; Woodridge 75, Coventry 3

The Bulldogs enjoyed their Senior Night on Thursday, scoring wins over undermanned Springfield and Coventry in a Metro Athletic Conference double dual meet.

Picking up two wins for Woodridge were senior 120-pounder Corey Casterline (two pins), senior 145-pounder Luke Radwany (injury default, pin) and sophomore 165-pounder Steve Duffy (two pins).

North Canton Hoover 72, Canton McKinley 12

The host Vikings won all contested matches by pin. Matthew Brown at 157 pounds won in the fastest time, recording a fall in 23 seconds.

Lake 36, Jackson 33

Xander Carson's 5-4 win at 190 pounds put Lake ahead for good in a Federal League win at Jackson.

Cloverleaf 51, Streetsboro 24

Pins by Brandon Ridenour (215 pounds) and Timmy Shores (285) helped the Colts secure a Metro Athletic Conference dual win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Kenmore-Garfield 47, Ellet 46

Quinari Shelton made a game-winning layup with 9.4 seconds to play to give the visiting Rams a City Series win. It was the first league loss for Ellet (6-4, 4-1).

Shelton finished with 11 points, and teammate Brianna Bunkley led all scorers with 17 points for Kenmore-Garfield (5-4, 5-1).

Mya Knight led Ellet with 12 points and Caitlynn Holmes added 11 points.

Firestone 51, Buchtel 31

Sophomore guard Aalivia Mullins collected 23 points and 17 rebounds to power the host Falcons to a City Series win. Mullins made 9 of 10 shots from the free-throw line for Firestone (2-6, 2-3), which had 42 rebounds as a team.

Chippewa 44, Smithville 30

The visiting Chipps outscored Smithville 20-9 in the fourth quarter to post a Wayne County Athletic League win. Annabel Rodriguez led all scorers with 12 points for Chippewa (8-3, 6-1). Jaclyn Jundzilo added five points, eight rebounds and six steals.

Norton 51, Canton McKinley 47

The Panthers led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter and held on for a nonleague home win. Senior Bailey Shutsa Norton had 19 points and sophomore Morgan Hallett chipped in 12 points for Norton (7-3).

GIRLS BOWLING

Lake 2,025, New Philadelphia 1,947

Emma Gross rolled a career-high 201 game and a career-high 369 series to lead the visiting Blue Streaks (8-2) to a nonleague win. Ashlee Cunningham topped Lake with a 242 game.

BOYS BOWLING

St. Vincent-St. Mary 2,434, CVCA 1,840

Irish senior Devin Zdanowicz rolled a 300 game at Stonehedge Family Entertainment in Akron as STVM beat CVCA.

Lake 2,457, New Philadelphia 2,244

Zac Abbott and Nic Templeton helped the Blue Streaks win their third consecutive match behind and hand New Philadelphia its first loss of the season at Dover's Boulevard Lanes. Abbott rolled games of 239 and 236 for a match-best 475 series, and Templeton had games of 207 and 203 for Lake (6-4).
