High school basketball roundup: North Murray boys pull away from Model in early region test

Christian Heritage 79, St. Francis 51

Christian Heritage (2-0) shut down St. Francis (2-4) 79-51 Tuesday.

Jax Abernathy scored 24 points for the Lions, while Isaac Plavich hit all nine of his free throw attempts on the way to 16 points. Cash Hare had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lions play Excel Christian at home Friday night at 7:30.

Coahulla Creek 57, Unity Christian 50

Coahulla Creek (2-2) ended a two-game slide with a 57-50 home win over Unity Christian (0-2) Tuesday.

After dispatching the school from Rome, the Colts head to Signal Mountain Wednesday night.

Coosa 54, Dalton Academy 40

Dalton Academy (0-4) was defeated 54-40 by Coosa (1-2) at home Tuesday.

The Pumas play against Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Gilmer 87, Murray County 67

Gilmer (2-1) handed Murray County (3-1) its first loss in the early season, defeating the Indians 87-67 in Chatsworth on Tuesday.

Braxton Vineyard led the way for Murray in the loss, scoring 18. Parker Hawkins scored 16, while Judah Woodall and Joseph Garland both put in 12.

Murray plays at Northwest Whitfield on Friday night at 8:30.

North Murray 77, Model 49

North Murray (5-0) aced an early season Region 7-2A test against defending champion Model (0-2), shooting past the Blue Devils 77-49 at home on Tuesday.

The last time the two played was a Model victory over North Murray in the Region 7-2A championship game last season.

The game was tied at 14 after a quarter, but North Murray pulled out to a 37-31 lead at half and allowed just 18 points in the second half while pulling away for the win.

Isaiah Morrison scored 15 to lead the way for North Murray. JD Ellis hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points, while Beau Ellis hit a trio of triples and scored 11. Brandy Contreras put in 11.

The Mountaineers play at Woodland Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Ringgold 67, Southeast Whitfield 37

Southeast Whitfield (1-3) was bested by Ringgold (2-1) 67-37 on Tuesday.

The Raiders host Dalton Academy at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Sonoraville 72, Dalton 49

Dalton (1-3) was downed 72-49 at home by Sonoraville (2-2) Tuesday night.

Drew Snyder had 17 points for the Catamounts, who play at Heritage in Ringgold Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Girls

Christian Heritage 69, Armuchee 65

Christian Heritage (5-2) downed Armuchee (1-2) 69-65 Tuesday for the Lady Lions' fifth win in a row.

Christian Heritage battled back from a 15-point deficit in the second quarter for the victory.

Carly Bramlett led the way for Christian Heritage with 21 points. Brooklyn Stallion scored 15, while London Wagner hit a pair of 3-pointers and totaled 12 points.

Christian Heritage hosts Excel Christian on Friday at 6 p.m.

Coahulla Creek 59, Unity Christian 17

Coahulla Creek (4-0) powered past Unity Christian (0-2) 59-17 Tuesday for the fourth straight win to start the year for the Lady Colts.

Aubree Langley scored 13 for Creek, which plays at Signal Mountain on Wednesday.

Coosa 56, Dalton Academy 14

Dalton Academy (0-4) fell to Coosa (2-1) 56-14 at home on Tuesday.

The Lady Pumas play Georgia School for the Deaf on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Cave Spring.

Dalton 61, Sonoraville 44

Dalton (3-2) sprinted past Sonoraville (0-4) 61-44 Tuesday in the first home game of the season for the Lady Catamounts.

Jolie Wingfield led the way for Dalton with 18 points, while BB Bates scored 16 and Emma Hefner put in nine.

Dalton plays at Ringgold's Heritage Friday night at 7.

Gilmer 66, Murray County 60

Gilmer (1-2) defeated Murray County (2-1) 66-60 Tuesday in a home game for the Lady Indians.

Murray County hosts Hamilton Heights Christian Academy on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Model 54, North Murray 33

North Murray (4-2) fell short of Model (4-0) 54-33 Tuesday night at home.

It was the Region 7-2A opener for both teams.

The Lady Mountaineers will step back out of region play for a game at Woodland Friday at 6 p.m.

Ringgold 59, Southeast Whitfield 12

Ringgold (2-1) ran past Southeast Whitfield (1-3) 59-12 on Tuesday in Dalton.

Southeast hosts Chattooga Thursday at 6 p.m.
