Golf scrambles help to raise funds for area organizations

Golf tournaments to raise money for various causes are featured throughout Somerset County during the summer. Here are some of them:

Shanksville VFDThe Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department is hosting its annual golf outing May 18 at the Northwinds Peninsula Golf Club, the first golf course designed by Arnold Palmer, 1772 Peninsula Drive, Central City. Sign-in begins at 8 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. shotgun start and lunch at the clubhouse. Get the form to register your team or sponsor a hole @svfd627.There are four hole-in-one challenges including a $10,000 cash prize sponsored by B.J. Maurer Ford. Other prize sponsors include Ridge Recycling, Hollern Insurance, Brantview Maple and Tri-Star Motors.

Pitt-Johnstown Alumni AssociationSupport Pitt-Johnstown and its Alumni Association by participating in the Alumni Golf Classic, May 31 at the Windber Country Club. The Pitt-Johnstown Alumni Association supports a variety of programs and activities, including alumni and student awards, student scholarships and networking events and professional development opportunities for both students and alumni. 47th annual Nellie King Golf ClassicThe 47th annual Nellie King Golf Classic is June 3 at Sewickley Heights Golf Club, 126 Backbone Road, Sewickley Heights. Registration 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Lunch 12-1 p.m. 18-hole shotgun 1-4 p.m. Hole contests available. Buffet dinner reception at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds go to the Mike Hepler Scholarship fund to ensure that every child, no matter what, has access to Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania programming. For more than 50 years, Mike Hepler was part of Boys & Girls Clubs, including the last 35 as president and CEO. Titan's Watch FoundationK9 Titan’s Watch Foundation, a new nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the legacy of K9 Officer Titan and providing essential support to current and retired Cambria County K9 officers, 4th annual K9 Police Tournament will be held Aug. 12, at Windber Country Club.
