Fond du Lac boys basketball hangs on to beat Neenah; No. 6 Rockets girls top Fondy by 20

FOND DU LAC — Fond du Lac (8-6, 6-3) led nearly wire-to-wire despite a second-half comeback from Neenah (8-7, 5-5) to earn a hard-fought victory, 69-61, in the Fox Valley Association.

The Cardinals led by as many as 19 points with 12 minutes to go until a 12-0 Neenah run made it a close ballgame once again.

The Rockets chipped the lead all the way down to a single point, 58-57, with just under three minutes left and could’ve tied the game after a made free throw attempt, but a lane violation was called on Neenah which wiped the point off the board.

From there on, Fondy's poise at the free throw line in clutch time was enough to stave off the Rockets' late rally and ice the win.

Rocky Barfknecht scored 16 points to lead the Cardinals and Ryker Johnson followed with 15. Eli Zimmerman drained three first-half 3-pointers, finishing with 11 points, and last Friday's hero, Marvin Haslett III, also had 11 for Fondy.

Brady Corso led Neenah with a game-high 25 points and Charlie Wunderlich added 22 for the Rockets.
