ESPN's Pat McAfee under fire for tweet referencing Michigan State football, Larry Nassar
Pat McAfee, the former NFL kicker/punter who has become a media mogul and one of the newest featured commentators for ESPN, is under fire for a tweet in which he criticized Michigan State football's neon uniforms by suggesting, seemingly in gist, disgraced former sports doctor Larry Nassar helped with them.
"I think Nassar was in on the design team actually," McAfee tweeted in response to a photo of the neon uniforms.

McAfee was signed away from FanDuel by ESPN for a reported $85 million contract to do his radio show/podcast across several platforms, including the linear TV network. The former Colts kicker and punter has become one of the most outspoken and popular sports media figures in America and has had stints on ESPN's "College GameDay" pregame show and his own version of the ManningCast during big college football games.
Bbut now some are calling for his firing following the post.
McAfee called out Skip Bayless just weeks ago at the ESPY Awards for the Fox Sports star's tweet when Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest on the field, after which Bayless jumped to speculation on what effect the game's postponement will have on the rest of the season.
McAfee appeared to double down on his comments by not only keeping the tweet up, but also retweeting it. The decision prompted immediate backlash from other Twitter users, particularly those involved in the MSU community.
When Pat McAfee sold out and took the ESPN contract, one of the top complaints was that the show would have to censor itself. The good ol’ boys couldn’t say “fuck” anymore! They couldn’t be the outsiders looking in. What you see below is Pats incredibly gross attempt at shock… pic.twitter.com/stKOK4zKv2

I cannot fathom in what universe this remark could be anything other than extremely poor taste and insensitive. It isn’t funny. It’s pointless and unnecessary.
This is who Pat McAfee is, a man who uses the pain of athletes as a punchline. https://t.co/2apGYQ1vFx— 𝕁𝕖𝕟𝕟𝕪 𝕕𝕦 𝕁𝕠𝕦𝕣 (@jensplain) July 31, 2023
Actually mind blowing this still hasn't been deleted.

This is a really shameful and disgusting comment to make. No reason to bring that name up and try for laughs that way.

McAfee appeared to defend his post by responding to a GIF from a Twitter user that said, "I think you'd better delete that one," with a GIF of his own saying "For what?"

Nassar was sentenced to 175 years in prison in 2018 for decades of sexual abuse under the guise of medical treatment committed during his employment at Michigan State and USA Gymnastics.
