Devils’ Jonas Siegenthaler has broken foot, Timo Meier to IR

Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler has sustained a broken foot, head coach Lindy Ruff announced.

Siegenthaler will miss some time after suffering the injury while blocking a shot in New Jersey’s 6-4 defeat to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.

Siegenthaler has played 37 games averaging 20:11 time on the ice with 47 hits and 56 blocks this season while chipping in eight points (one goal, seven assists).

Jack Hughes, who was injured in Friday's victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, did not play in Saturday's game and Ruff said it is "non-definitive how long he will be out.”

Ruff added the upper-body injury is still being evaluated.

In 32 games this season, the 22-year-old center has 15 goals and 30 assists to lead New Jersey with 45 points. Hughes is averaging 20:31 of ice time, which would be a career-high.

Before the game, the Devils announced forward Timo Meier was placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 30. Ruff said the move was to free up a roster spot and that Meier is progressing. His timeline for a return hasn’t changed. In the corresponding move, New Jersey recalled forward Max Willman from Utica.

Meier, who came to the Devils in a midseason deal with San Jose last year, has 15 points (nine goals, six assists) in 28 games this year while averaging 16:43 of ice time.
