The UTEP and Middle Tennessee men's basketball teams will try for their first Conference USA win of the season when the two meet Thursday night at the Don Haskins Center on national television.
The start of league play has been rough for both teams, as the Miners are coming off two road losses while Middle Tennessee got swept at home last week. Middle Tennessee was voted by league coaches as the preseason co-favorite to win CUSA but has been beset by injuries that have the Blue Raiders coming in at 6-11 overall.

"Middle has had some adversity this year, they lost an all-conference guard (Camryn Weston), a guy who could have been player of the year in our league," UTEP coach Joe Golding said. "They've also had some other injuries, they are trying to figure some things out but they are defending really well. …
"The biggest thing for us, it doesn't matter who the opponent is, we have to protect home floor. That's the biggest thing if you want to stay in this conference race. If we want to get back in it we have to protect home floor."
