The long wait is finally over. Today, the Stetson men's basketball team finally plays in March Madness.
The Hatters will take on defending champion Connecticut in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The winner advances to face either No. 8 FAU or No. 9 Northwestern in the second round Sunday.
Stetson (22-12) got here by winning the Atlantic Sun Conference's automatic berth. Led by a 43-point outburst by Jalen Blackmon, one of the nation's leading scorers, the Hatters beat Austin Peay 94-91 in the ASUN Tournament championship. The win gave the team from DeLand, Florida, its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since rising to Division I status in 1971.

UConn (31-3) is the overall No. 1 seed in the tournament and a favorite to win back-to-back national championships. The Huskies won the Big East Tournament and has lost just one game since the calendar flipped to 2024. Guard Tristen Newton leads one of the strongest offenses in the country and was named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press.
