CBS Sports makes its picks for the Vanderbilt Commodores game

There’s less than 48 hours until kickoff between the Florida Gators and Vanderbilt Commodores at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The Gators are coming off a major beatdown thanks to the Kentucky Wildcats and its running game.

Now the Gators are trying to move on and gear up for its homecoming game.

CBS Sports college football writer Barrett Sallee released his weekly predictions for the SEC slate of games and is predicting a big upset in the Swamp.

The Commodores are an 18.5-point underdog going into Saturday.

“The Gators are way too inconsistent to lay 18.5 points, even at home,” Sallee said. “With that said, quarterback Graham Mertz has done a relatively good job protecting the ball and coach Billy Napier seems to understand that he needs to make changes to how the program operates after last weekend’s debacle versus Kentucky.”

Sallee also believes the Gators should find a way to call more running plays, especially with sophomore Trevor Etienne.

“One of those changes needs to be an effort to make Trevor Etienne more of a focal point in the offense, but that won’t be the only change that we see on the field. This will be more of a trial-and-error outing, and some of those trails will fail. As a result, take the Commodores to cover in a very sloppy affair.”

Unfortunately for the Gators, Etienne is listed as questionable on this week’s depth chart with an upper-body injury.

The Florida Gators homecoming bout with Vanderbilt starts at 4 p.m. EDT on Saturday and will broadcast on the SEC Network.
