STURGIS — You should take some time and cast your vote for the athlete of the week.

Here are the nominees. To vote, you can click on the student-athlete you feel should win the award. You can vote as many times as you'd like.

Brooklynn Root is up for athlete of the week this week.
Brooklynn Root is up for athlete of the week this week.

Brooklynn Root, Burr Oak — Root pitched the Burr Oak softball team to a victory over Waldron on Saturday. In a perfect game, she struck out 14 batters. Root also finished with two hits and a pair of runs driven in.

Kailee Jones, Constantine — Jones set a new school record in the 1,600-meter run for Constantine on Friday at the Don Luken Invitational. Her time was 5:40.13, which beat the record by better than four seconds set by Chris Tulley more than 30 years ago.

Sturgis' 800 relay team (boys) — The Sturgis boys ran at the Charlie Janke Invitational in Jackson on Friday. Sturgis' 800 relay team of Rasean O'Tey, Dalton Tisdel, Zach Green and Brenden Myer set a new school record at 1:30.18 in that race. That is the ninth best time in the state for Division 1 this year.

Ally Butler, Mendon — Ally Butler was tough as nails inside the circle for Mendon on Saturday. She pitched the Hornets to a victory over Eau Claire, 6-1, with 19 strikeouts. Butler also finished the day with a pair of hits and three runs driven in.

Voting for Athlete of the Week is open until Thursday at 11 a.m.
