Calvary’s Ramsey “Rambo” Walker, an Arkansas signee, is a home run hitting machine

Calvary’s Ramsey “Rambo” Walker just keeps churning out the hits and the home runs, along with the school and state records.

The senior Arkansas signee, who wishes she wasn’t superstitious about everything softball, has been drilling dingers since she arrived in the varsity lineup as a seventh grader with a swing that should be envied by Major Leaguers. She’s become so prolific that some of the top teams in the state are too leery to pitch to her.

Walker has three LHSAA state championship rings to her credit, including one with her older sister, Riley, who pitched the Lady Cavaliers to a state title in 2021.

“By far the most memorable game in my life was winning the state championship with Riley,” Walker said. “She pitched that game and was able to hold them to zero into extra innings and I was able to walk it off in the bottom of the eighth inning, which was the coolest thing ever especially to do it with her on the same field as me.”

The Lady Cavaliers (31-2) and Walker have their sights set on a rarity — a fourth consecutive state title. Walker is the leader of the pack hitting .589 with 18 home runs, 10 doubles, three triples, 55 runs scored and 54 RBIs. She’s been walked a whopping 22 times, most of them intentionally even though opponents often try to make it seem otherwise.

Walker said securing that championship feeling is something that never gets old.

“Winning multiple championships comes with tons of hard work and many hard days but in the end is so worth it,” she said. “I keep the rings in my room all laid out next to each other so I can never forget everything that goes into them.”

Walker came by her “Rambo” nickname honestly and it does have connotations to Sylvester Stallone’s movie character. She plays softball in much the same way Stallone attacks bad guys – with abandon.

“It was a popular movie in the past and it starts with Ram,” she said. “I always have gotten called different names with Ram in it, but Rambo stuck.”

What also has stuck is the decision to choose Arkansas softball over LSU, which came in Oct. 2022. Her father, Clint, played baseball for the Razorbacks back in his day.

“It was cool but honestly didn’t affect my decision,” Walker said. “I chose Arkansas because it felt like home, and I truly felt loved and wanted and could feel it from the moment I got there. Arkansas stood out to me, and I felt like it was a better program for my needs.”

A lover of math, Walker’s greatest fear is not reaching her potential.

“If I could change one thing about myself, I would want to not expect perfection from myself all the time,” she said. “I have high standards for myself, so when I don’t reach them, it sometimes can get to me.”
