The Buffalo Bills' season ended with a heartbreaking 42-36 overtime playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional round.

Buffalo made the postseason for the fourth time in five years under head coach Sean McDermott but bowed out a round earlier this year after losing to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game a season ago.

Here's what to know as the Bills head into the offseason:

Buffalo Bills 2022 schedule

The Bills will play each team in the AFC East — Miami, New England and the New York Jets — twice.

AFC East teams will also play all of the teams in the AFC North and NFC North. Since Buffalo won its division, it will play the other first-place finishers in the AFC.

It will be the second year of the NFL's 17-game schedule. Buffalo will play eight home games and nine on the road.

Home opponents: New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings.

Away opponents: New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams.

Buffalo Bills 2022 draft picks

The Bills' draft spot was determined after the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Buffalo will have the No. 25 overall pick. The 2022 NFL Draft will be held April 28-30 in Paradise, Nevada.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will have the No. 1 pick for the second straight season.

Buffalo has nine total selections in the seven-round draft:

  • First round: 1

  • Second round: 1

  • Third round: 1

  • Fourth round: 1

  • Fifth round: 1

  • Sixth round: 2 (Buffalo acquired the Carolina Panthers' pick for defensive end Darryl Johnson)

Buffalo Bills 2022 salary cap

The salary cap is expected to grow to $208.2 million in 2022. That's a 14.1% increase from the 2021 salary cap.

The Bills are expected to have just more than $7.5 million in salary cap space, eighth lowest in the NFL, according to Over The Cap. Buffalo has 41 players under contract in 2022.

Buffalo could release center Mitch Morse to save $8.5 million in cap space while taking a $2.75 million hit in dead money. The Bills could save $6.1 million with $1.5 million in dead cap by parting ways with wide receiver Cole Beasley. They could also save $5.1 million by releasing linebacker A.J. Klein. with only $400,000 in dead money.
