Zemgus Girgensons maintains All-Star vote lead; Kane, Toews gain ground
Voting for the 2015 NHL All-Star Game concludes on Jan. 1, and with the lead that Zemgus Girgensons of the Buffalo Sabres has built up, thanks to his fellow Latvians, he’ll no doubt be a starter in Columbus next month.
But who will join him in the starting five? That remains to be seen, but it’s looking like it’s going to be Zemgus and the Blackhawks, who, oddly enough, I think I saw play a show in New York City last year.
The NHL released the voting totals after five weeks on Tuesday and Girgensons is still your runaway leader with 1,291,186 votes. Patrick Kane (815,990) and Jonathan Toews (803,034) are your next two forwards. On the blueline it’s Duncan Keith (790,922) and Brent Seabrook (641,736) in front. And in net, Corey Crawford (714,471) has a commanding lead over Carey Price (485,856).
According to the NHL, of the over 25 million votes cast, 20-percent have been for Blackhawks, while 10-percent have gone to Sabres, mostly Girgensons. And since the last voting update, Toews earned 229,836 votes, making him the biggest mover of the week. Jaroslav Halak, meanwhile, moved to third place among goaltenders after a 65-percent rise in his totals.
