Is Baye Fall an answer at center for UNC next season?

The transfer portal is in full swing for college basketball.

It seems like every time I open Instagram, there’s someone else looking to switch schools. Two of the biggest names, AJ Storr and Tucker DeVries, have already committed to their new schools.

One guy who didn’t play a bunch last year is Baye Fall, the towering 6’11” center from Senegal, who spent his freshman year at Arkansas.

Fall appeared in just nine games for the Razorbacks during the 2023-2024 campaign, scoring seven points, grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking six shots. Arkansas struggled as a whole, though, finishing with a losing record for the first time since 2009-2010.

Don’t let his small sample size fool you: Fall can play. He averaged at least 13.9 points per game in each high school season, including a career-high 22.1 in his sophomore campaign, which included a Colorado 3A State Championship with Lutheran High School.

Oh – did we mention he was a McDonalds All-American?

Why am I telling you about Fall?

I think the North Carolina Tar Heels should go after him, as Fall recently entered the transfer portal.

UNC is going to be pretty thin in the post next year, as Armando Bacot exhausted his eligibility and Harrison Ingram could go pro? Jalen Washington is the only other center on North Carolina’s roster, but he didn’t play a ton of impactful minutes.

4-star recruit James Brown is also coming in. Hopefully, he’ll see significant playing time.

Regardless of where Fall decides to go, the Tar Heels will have a young core down low next season.
