Arizona State football transfer portal tracker: Who will stay or go?

The NCAA transfer portal has closed again, with all schools having concluded their spring practices.

Graduate transfers are allowed to enter at any time, however. There is also an exception made for players on a team whose head coach departs. Once a head coach exits a program, a 30-day transfer window is triggered for the roster.

ASU has had a good haul of players so far and will be looking to add players in the coming month, the biggest positions of need being a tight end, an offensive tackle and quarterback.

Who's coming

OT Josh Atkins (So., 6-4, 290, from Hawaii): Spent two seasons at Houston, redshirting in 2021 and playing little in 2022 before going to Hawaii, where he became the team's starter at left tackle. He fits an immediate need at ASU. Product of Mansfield Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas. Pegged as the No. 136 offensive tackle in his class and the No. 250 prospect in Texas by 247Sports.

ATH Raleek Brown (So., 5-8, 185, from USC): Was a former four-star recruit out of national power Santa Ana Mater Dei when he signed with USC. Was ranked as the No. 69 overall prospect, No. 3 running back and No. 7 player in talent-laden California according to 247Sports which also tabs him as the transfer portal's No. 23 player. Head coach Kenny Dillingham and receivers coach Ra'Shaad Samples were the lead recruiters in getting Brown. Has three years of eligibility left.

DT Jeff Clark (Sr., 6-0, 287, from Louisville): Appeared in 13 games as a reserve defensive tackle, registering 14 tackles and 2 tackles for loss. The native of Powder Springs, Georgia. has one year of eligibility left after one year at Louisville and three at Georgia State.

LB Jordan Crook (So., 6-0, 220, from Arkansas): Played in 25 games in his two years with the Razorbacks, totaling 40 tackles. One of his starts as a freshman came in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. Kansas and he responded with 12 tackles. His high school head coach was Reginald Samples, father of ASU wide receivers coach Ra'Shaad Samples. The Duncanville, Texas, native will have two years of eligibility left.

DL J.P. Deeter (So., 6-4, 265, From Purdue): The former three-star high school prospect was at Purdue for two seasons but did not see any game action. Deeter, who hails from Manvel, Texas, will have three years of eligibility left. He was the seventh commit of a busy weekend for the Sun Devil coaching staff.

TE Markeston Douglas (6-4, 285, R-Jr., from Florida State): Recorded 11 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns the past season. Played in all 13 games in 2022 with four starts, recording 14 catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns. The Brownsville, Tennessee, native had a career-high four receptions for 50 yards and one touchdown in a 35-32 Cheez-It Bowl victory vs. Oklahoma. Has two years of eligibility left.

LB Keyshaun Elliott (So., 6-3, 225, from New Mexico State): Was the team's leading tackler with 111 tackles (10 for loss), 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery the past season as a sophomore. He had 27 tackles and a fumble recovery as a true freshman the year before. Third-team All-Conference USA selection. Has two years of eligibility left. Is the 15th transfer commitment for the Sun Devils.

LB Zyrus Fiaseu (So., 6-0, 220, from San Diego State): Led the Aztecs in tackles (66), tackles for loss (11.5), sacks (5.5) and also had five quarterback hurries, five breakups, three forced fumbles and three recovered fumbles, earning team MVP honors. The Las Vegas native will have two years of eligibility remaining.

TE Cameron Harpole (So., 6-4, 285, from San Diego State): Played in 11 games as a reserve, some of that on special teams. Caught seven passes for 69 yards. Harpole, a native of Prosper, Texas, has two years of eligibility left. The second transfer tight end added.

OL Jalen Klemm (Fr., 6-5, 281, from Washington): Played in seven games last year at Washington, mostly as the second team left tackle and adds to ASU's greatest position of need. He is the son of longtime college and NFL offensive line coach Adrian Klemm and comes in with three remaining seasons of eligibility. His college career started at Kansas State in 2022 but he redshirted.

DL Jacob Kongaika (So., 6-2, 300, from Arizona): Played in 22 games over the last two seasons for the Wildcats as a reserve on defense and on special teams. Last season he played 273 snaps on defense and 49 on kick and punt teams. He tallied 14 tackles, two sacks and two fumble recoveries. Was a three-star prospect out of national power Mater Dei High School in Southern California.

QB Sam Leavitt (Fr., 6-2, 205, From Michigan State): Redshirted as a true freshman the past season, playing in four games and completing 15 of 23 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Was a four-star prospect out of high school, dubbed the No. 1 prospect in his state by On3 Sports. Hails from West Linn, Oregon. Will have four years of eligibility lefty. Ranked as the No. 19 quarterback and 70th overall player in the transfer portal by 247Sports.

K Parker Lewis (Sr., 6-3, 220, from Ohio State) A product of Saguaro who spent last season at Ohio State where he played in just one game over the last two seasons. Prior to Ohio State Lewis was an honorable mention All-Pac 12 selection at USC as a true freshman in 2020 and made 46 of 47 PATs and 26 of his 35 field goal attempts over a two-season period that included a 9-for-15 showing from beyond 40 yards.

DB Cole Martin (Fr., 5-10, 180, from Oregon): Martin, a local out of Basha HS, played 157 snaps as a true freshman, which was among the most by players in his class. He had 21 total tackles and one interception in that time. Martin was a member of the 2023 recruiting class and a four-star prospect out of high school by all recruiting services. He has three years of eligibility left.

RB Alton McCaskill (Sr., 6-1, 200, from Colorado): Had a promising start in 2021 when he earned AAC Rookie of the Year honors as a true freshman at Houston, running for 961 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns Then moved on to Colorado, only to miss the 2022 season with a torn ACL. last year he played in four games, before asking coach Deion Sanders to be redshirted. He has had a medical redshirt and a traditional redshirt so he will have three years of eligibility left.

WR Malik McClain (Sr., 6-4, 200, from Penn State): Recorded six receptions for 71 yards in limited action last season for the Nittany Lions. Is a familiar commodity for head coach Kenny Dillingham because he was at Florida State in 2021 when Dillingham was on the staff there. Had 39 receptions for 466 and six touchdowns in three college seasons. McClain was a four-star prospect out of IMG Academy in Bradenton.

TE Chamon Metayer (Gr., 6-5, 245, from Colorado/Cincinnati): Played three seasons at Cincinnati, catching 23 passes for 258 yards and five touchdowns, then went in the portal a first time. Went to Colorado where he spent 10 spring practices, then left that program without playing a game. Was a four-star prospect out of North Miami High School in 2021.

DE Roman Pitre (So., 6-5, 245, from Purdue): Did not play in any games during his two seasons with the Boilermakers as an outside linebacker, redshirting in 2022 A product of University Lab in Baton Rouge, the same high school of former ASU DB Jordan Clark. Has three years of eligibility left.

CB Javan Robinson (So., 6-0, 169, from Washington State): Was the top backup corner for the Cougars last season as a freshman. Registered 12 tackles and a pass breakup in seven games. Made one start, against the Sun Devils. Redshirted his first season in 2022 which meant he played there under current ASU defensive coordinator Brian Ward. The native of Apopka, Florida, will have three years of eligibility left.

S Myles "Ghost" Rowser (So., 6-1, 190, from New Mexico State): The Detroit native totaled 70 tackles, 1 interception, 3 passes defended and a forced a fumble in 13 games. Has two years of eligibility left after starting his college career at Campbell where he earned freshman All-America FCS honors from several outlets.

QB Jeff Sims (Sr., 6-4, 220, from Nebraska): Played three seasons at Georgia Tech before moving on to Nebraska last season. He is regarded as a gifted quarterback from a physical standpoint but has struggled with turnovers. Last year, he had six interceptions and lost four fumbles despite playing in just portions of five games.

OL Joey Su'a (Fr., 6-4, 346, from Arkansas): Enrolled at Arkansas in January but did not play in any games so has four years of eligibility. Was born in Phoenix and grew up in the Valley until 2015 when his family moved to the High Desert area of Southern California before moving to Arkansas in 2021.

DL Zac Swanson (R-So., 6-2, 282, from Texas): Swanson appeared in two games during his true freshman season and played just one snap as a redshirt freshman last season. He has three remaining seasons of eligibility. Was a three-star prospect when he signed out of Brophy Prep.

DE J'Mond Tapp (So., 6-3, 255, from Texas): Tapp appeared in nine total games for Texas, including seven in 2023. The native of Donaldson, Louisiana had nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in his career for the Longhorns.

CB Laterrance Welch (6-1, 193, So., From LSU): A former four-star prospect out of high school, he appeared in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2022. He was expected to compete for a starting job in 2023, and appeared in nine games as a reserve, finishing with nine total tackles. The native of Lafayette, Louisiana, will still have two years of eligibility left.

LS Tyler Wigglesworth (Fr., 5-9, 205, from Northern Arizona): The product of Glendale Mountain Ridge fills a need as ASU graduated its long snapper, Slater Zellers. Has three years of eligibility left.

S Kamari Wilson (So., 6-0, 200, from Florida): Played in all 13 games in 2022 as a true freshman with two starts. Finished with 39 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one pass deflection and a forced fumble. The Fort Pierce, Fla. native appeared in only the first three games this season so he will have three years of eligibility left.

DL Justin Wodtly (R-Jr., 6-3, 275, from Cincinnati): Played in 11 games with 13 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one breakup and three quarterback hurries. Wodtly, who hails from Cleveland, has two years of eligibility remaining.

Players lost to the transfer portal

WR Elijhah Badger (Sr., 6-2, 190): The Sun Devils leading receiver the last two years with 135 catches for 1,579 yards and 10 touchdowns. Was also an integral performer on special teams with 20 returns for 578 yards, with that 28.9 average ranking third nationally. Has one year of eligibility left

DL Sam Benjamin (R-So., 6-5, 285): Was at ASU just one year after transfer from Idaho State. Saw action in 10 games as a reserve and managed five tackles and a quarterback hurry in 2023. Two years of eligibility remaining.

DB Jordan Clark (Sr., 5-10, 185): One of the most veteran players and a respected team leader has one year of eligibility left. Clark recorded 50 tackles and nine breakups the past season. In five years (including a redshirt in 2019), Clark tallied 139 tackles with three interceptions and 17 passes defended. Clark had 22 career starts. Committed to Notre Dame.

QB Jacob Conover (So., 6-1, 205): Was the No. 4 quarterback on the depth chart in his only season after two at BYU. Saw some action in three games, going 11-for-38 for 130 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He's a product of Chandler High School.

TE Jalin Conyers (Jr. 6-4, 270): Regarded as a future NFL prospect, he departs after playing three seasons having recorded 74 catches for 846 yards and six touchdowns. His breakout season was the 2022 campaign in which he tallied a career-high 38 catches for 422 yards and five scores. His best game that season came against Colorado when he caught six passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns. Committed to Texas Tech, the school he grew up rooting for.

S Josiah Cox (Fr., 6-0, 195) Saw action in 10 games as a reserve, managing three tackles. Was a three-star prospect out of Lincoln High School in San Diego. Committed to New Mexico State.

LB James Djonkam (Jr. 6-3, 250): Saw action in 12 games as a backup linebacker and on special teams. Recorded 13 tackles and two quarterback hurries the past season, his second playing for the Sun Devils after transferring to ASU from Independence CC (Kansas). Committed to Eastern Michigan. Has two years of eligibility left.

OL Isaia Glass (Jr., 6-5, 295): Glass missed six games due to injury and then quit the team so he could preserve his redshirt and seek a transfer. The Queen Creek High School product has 13 career starts and was part of the rotation even when not starting. He has two years of eligibility left. Committed to Oklahoma State.

DL B.J. Green (Jr., 6-1, 270): Was a huge presence on the defensive line with 39 tackles, six sacks, 11 quarterback hurries and a forced fumble in his first year as a full-time starter after previously being used as a third-down pass rush specialist. Committed to Washington first, but after the coaching change, they took other visits and flipped to Colorado.

DB Willie Harts (Jr., 6-0, 180): Did not play last season by his own choice. Played the three previous season seeing time in 20 games, mostly as a reserve. Totaled 18 tackles, one interception and forced one fumble. Has two seasons of eligibility left.

ATH Javen Jacobs (So., 5-10, 195): The Saguaro High School product was originally a wide receiver but moved to the running back room in the spring but the primary action he has seen in his two years has come on special teams. Has three years of eligibility left. This season he had two punt returns for 15 yards and two kickoff returns for a total of 23 yards. Committed to New Mexico.

WR Andre Johnson (Sr., 6-4, 215): Local player out of Tolleson missed two games last season due to injury but was otherwise buried on the depth chart with four catches for 36 yards. Had 15 for 130 yards in 2022 and 12 for 186 yards in 2021. Has one year of eligibility left. Committed to Miami (Ohio).

DB Isaiah Johnson (Jr., 6-1, 190): Didn't play this season, having been kicked off the team early in fall camp. Saw some time in a reserve role first two years. Committed to Marshall.

DB Lenox Lawson (Fr., 5-10, 172): The local out of Red Mountain did not play in a game and red-shirted last season so he has four years of eligibility left.

OL Shancco "Ise" Matautia (So., 6-2, 346, from New Mexico): Started 20 games for the Lobos over the last two years where he played for Danny Gonzales, previously the defensive coordinator at ASU. Played and started in eight games in 2022 but then missed four games with an injury before returning for the final two. Played in every game last season. The Carson, California native has two years of eligibility left. Participated in spring ball with ASU, then re-entered the portal.

TE Bryce Pierre (Gr., 6-5, 255): Spent three years at ASU, catching 17 passes for 139 yards in 2023. Best game came against Fresno State when he caught three passes for 35 yards. One year of eligibility left. Committed to UCLA.

QB Jaden Rashada (Fr., 6-4, 185): Played in three games a year ago, completing 44 of 82 passes for 485 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. Aggravated an old knee injury in the second game of the season and then missed the next nine, returning in the regular season finale against Arizona. He retained a redshirt and will have four years of eligibility left. Committed to Georgia.

DB R.J. Regan (Jr., 5-11, 185): Saw action as a reserve in eight games last season, managing seven tackles. Played in 18 games over three years but has never been a major factor on the depth chart. Has two years of eligibility left.

DB Shawn Russ (Fr.), 6-0, 195): True freshman who left the team in fall camp. Seemed to be buried on the chart at a position where ASU had some depth. Committed to Bethune-Cookman.

QB Drew Pyne (So., 6-0, 190): A transfer from Notre Dame who never factored prominently due to injuries. Challenged for the starting job before sustaining a hamstring injury in a scrimmage at Camp Tontozona that sidelined him a month. Then injured again with a different leg ailment. Missed a total of nine games. In his two games, he completed 26 of 49 passes for 273 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Committed to Missouri.

LB Will Shaffer (Sr. 6-0, 233): Entered the transfer portal in the middle of the season after playing in four games, indicating on social media he intended to use a redshirt season and transfer. The Saguaro High product was primarily a backup in his four seasons in Tempe although he could have had a bigger role this season if he stayed because it is a position where the Sun Devils were thin. He recorded five tackles this season and his best was nine in 2022. Committed to Utah State but went back in the portal before playing a game.

DL Gharin Stansbury (R-J., 6-6, 285): Buried on the depth chart on a deep defensive line. Career took a huge hit when he sustained a severe hamstring injury that sidelined him much of 2022 and never got back in the mix after that. Played in just three games with five assisted tackles.

DL Ashley Williams (Fr., 6-5, 245): A true freshman who redshirted this season. Did not play in any games. Committed to Louisiana-Lafayette, which takes home as he is a Louisiana native.

DB Ed Woods (R-Sr., Gr., 6-0, 180); Was a mainstay in the Sun Devils secondary, playing here for four years with a career-best 33 tackles last season, starting five games. Was the probable starter at one corner position before hitting the portal this spring. Has one year of eligibility left. Committed to Michigan State.
