Roger Goodell says it would not be appropriate for NFL to pay for Kareem Hunt video

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell defended the league’s process regarding its pursuit of the Kareem Hunt video. On Wednesday, Goodell said he did not think it would be appropriate for the NFL to pay for that type of video, according to Will Brinson of CBS Sports.

The NFL drew criticism after reports surfaced suggesting the league had not seen the video until TMZ released it. Goodell said Wednesday the league would not engage in tactics that involve “corrupting people or bribing them into giving us video.”

The video, which showed Hunt shoving and kicking a woman, was released by TMZ earlier this month. The incident took place in February. Shortly after the video was released, the Chiefs cut the 23-year-old. He has not been picked up by any team.

Goodell and the league are not the only parties to face criticism from the incident. Cleveland police also failed to view video footage of the incident on the night it occurred. There was also a witness who claimed the hotel was not helpful to the woman who was injured that night.

It’s not the first time TMZ has released a video involving an NFL star. The site also was the first to show surveillance footage of Ray Rice punching his fiancée in 2014. TMZ reportedly paid $90,000 for that video, according to the New York Post.
