Week 11 AFC Targets/Touches

Graham Barfield reviews the Week 11 Targets and Touches Report for the AFC

From here on out, this column will only have players’ six most recent games, regardless if they were active or on a bye. The targets and touches will be in descending order of games played.

All targets and touches data is compiled from Pro Football Reference.

Note: if a player has an asterisk next to a number in their data set, that indicates the player was injured during the game. Also, this data will stick to fantasy relevant players meaning that running backs and wide receivers that only see one target or touch per-game will not be included.

Just as a reminder, the NFC targets and touches report comes out every Wednesday.

RB Touches: Justin Forsett (27, 25, 24, 15, 18, 18) and Javorius Allen (5, 8, 5, 4, 7, 6)

Red zone Targets: Crockett Gillmore (0, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1), Justin Forsett (0, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0), Kamar Aiken (1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0), Javorius Allen (0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0), Chris Givens (0, 0, 0, 0, 1)

Red zone Carries: Justin Forsett (2, 2, 3, 2, 3, 1), Buck Allen (1, 4, 1, 0, 1, 1)

CBs Thrown At (via PFF): Jimmy Smith 4, 11, 5, 5, 4, 7 (Allowed: 2-28, 8-92, 2-53, 4-33-2, 2-15, 4-27-1) and Lardarius Webb 3, 10, 3, 6, 8, 10 (1-9-0, 10-72-1, 1-5, 4-81, 8-58-1, 5-39-1)

Analysis: In the two games Steve Smith has missed, Kamar Aiken has seen 9 and 14 targets. With Breshad Perriman now officially on season-ending injured reserve and Smith out for the season, Aiken will continue to be peppered with targets for the foreseeable future.

Buffalo Bills

Targets: Sammy Watkins (0, 0, 5*, 0, 8, 7), Charles Clay (13, 3, 13, 5, 1, 6), LeSean McCoy (0, 0, 4, 4, 2, 5), Robert Woods (5, 2, 6, 13, 1, 7), Karlos Williams (4, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1)

RB Touches: LeSean McCoy (0, 0, 18, 20, 18*, 24) and Karlos Williams (21, 0, 0, 0, 9, 8),

Red zone Targets: Charles Clay (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), LeSean McCoy (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Robert Woods (1, 0, 1, 2, 0, 1), Sammy Watkins (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

Red zone Carries: LeSean McCoy (0, 0, 4, 1, 0, 0), Karlos Williams (2, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Tyrod Taylor (1, 0, 0, 0, 3, 1)

CBs Thrown At: Stephon Gilmore 10, 6, 8, 4, 6, 9 (4-49-1, 2-20, 5-78-1, 3-50-1, 3-42, 4-42), Ronald Darby 7, 5, 7, 8, 6, 5 (2-6, 3-20, 6-53, 2-40, 5-53, 1-(-2)), Nickell Robey 4, 4, 2, 1, 4, 6 (3-18, 3-28, 1-24, 1-5, 3-42, 4-84-2)

Analysis: Here’s something fun: Sammy Watkins doesn’t have a red zone target this year. It's hard to believe that a single pass has not been thrown in Watkins’ direction inside of the 20-yard line this year. Percy Harvin – who is out for the year – has three red zone targets, “Chris Gragg” has three, Chris Hogan has three, and Robert Woods has five. Granted, Watkins has missed some time with calf and ankle problems this year and Buffalo is the fourth most run-heavy team in the league but I’d still wager that Watkins’ lack of red zone looks is just misfortune.

Cincinnati Bengals

Targets: A.J. Green (9, 8, 7, 17, 6, 7), Tyler Eifert (4, 12, 4, 8, 6, 7), Jeremy Hill (0, 2, 1, 1, 1, 3), Giovani Bernard (0, 8, 2, 3, 1, 8), Marvin Jones (2, 8, 12, 5, 6, 9), Mohamed Sanu (6, 5, 4, 3, 3, 2)

RB Touches: Jeremy Hill (9, 9, 17, 16, 16, 10) and Gio Bernard (13, 20, 9, 3, 14, 13)

Red zone Targets: A.J. Green (1, 0, 0, 4, 0, 0), Tyler Eifert (0, 2, 1, 0, 4, 1), Mohamed Sanu (2, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Gio Bernard (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Marvin Jones (0, 1, 1, 1, 0, 0), Jeremy Hill (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

Red zone Carries: Jeremy Hill (4, 2, 0, 1, 2, 0), Gio Bernard (4, 2, 3, 4, 1, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Dre Kirkpatrick 10, 3, 11, 8, 6, 6 (7-122, 1-7, 7-82, 4-48, 3-19, 1-14) and Adam Jones 6, 1, 1, 5, 6, 4 (0-0, 1-22, 3-25, 4-28-1, 2-41, 5-44)

Analysis: What happened to Jeremy Hill? Seriously. Hill led the NFL in rushing by more than 100 yards in the final nine weeks of 2014 and has seemingly been completely lost for the entire 2015 season. I’m not sure there is just one good answer for Hill’s ineffectiveness and lack of production this year, but the fact is he’s averaged less than four yards per carry in seven of nine games. His 63 yards rushing in Week 1 against Oakland is his high water mark total on the year.

Cleveland Browns

Targets: Travis Benjamin (12, 13, 8, 5, 6, 11), Gary Barnidge (10, 9, 7, 11, 7, 8), Duke Johnson (8, 4, 7, 2, 2, 4), Brian Hartline (3, 3, 3, 10, 0, 9), Isaiah Crowell (2, 2, 0, 2, 4, 2)

RB Touches: Isaiah Crowell (15, 13, 8, 11, 13, 7) and Duke Johnson (15, 12, 13, 3, 5, 8)

Red zone Targets: Gary Barnidge (1, 2, 0, 2, 1, 3), Travis Benjamin (0, 1, 1, 0, 1, 3), Duke Johnson (1, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0), Brian Hartline (1, 1, 1, 3, 0, 4)

Red zone Carries: Isaiah Crowell (0, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2) and Duke Johnson (1, 1, 0, 0, 2, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Joe Haden 8, 6, 0, 5*, 5*, 0 – Inactive in Week 9-10 (3-34-1, 6-87, 0-0, 4-44, 5-123-2, 0-0) and Tramon Williams 5, 13, 2, 13, 7, 5 (3-59, 5-103-1, 1-20, 7-132, 5-69-1, 2-25)

Analysis: As it has been all year, the Browns backfield remained a direct split in Week 10. Isaiah Crowell handled 33 snaps while Duke Johnson handled 27. Johnny Manziel is now the Browns’ starting quarterback for the duration of the season and for fantasy purposes, I think it hurts Travis Benjamin and Gary Barnidge just slightly. In the three games Johnny Manziel has started this year, Benjamin has seen 4, 6, and 11 targets and averaged 8.7 targets/game with Josh McCown at the helm. Gary Barnidge has seen 1, 7, and 8 targets with Manziel and averaged 8.3 targets per-game with McCown.

Denver Broncos

Targets: Emmanuel Sanders (6, 12, 12, 5, 11, 4), Demaryius Thomas (12, 8, 17, 11, 7, 10), Ronnie Hillman (1, 2, 5, 2, 0, 4), C.J. Anderson (1, 2, 4, 1, 2, 1), Owen Daniels (5, 5, 3, 3, 9, 5), Vernon Davis (1, 4)

RB Touches: Ronnie Hillman (12, 8, 23, 20, 7, 11) and C.J. Anderson (12, 13, 17, 15, 8, 3)

Red zone Targets: Demaryius Thomas (2, 2, 0, 1, 2, 1) Emmanuel Sanders (1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0), Owen Daniels (2, 2, 0, 0, 1, 0), Ronnie Hillman (0, 2, 0, 1, 0, 0), Vernon Davis (0, 1)

Red zone Carries: Ronnie Hillman (2, 0, 1, 4, 1, 2) and C.J. Anderson (2, 3, 3, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Chris Harris Jr. 7, 7, 4, 5, 5, 5 (4-48, 4-40, 2-11, 4-23, 5-91, 2-2), Aqib Talib 9, 7, 3, 7, 1, 4 – Suspended in Week 10 (7-70, 6-70-1, 1-19, 3-44, 1-3, 0-0), Bradley Roby 8, 4, 4, 3, 5, 5 (6-86, 3-26, 2-25, 1-7, 4-23, 4-60)

Analysis: A report came out on Monday of this week that Peyton Manning has been dealing with torn ligaments in his foot (plantar fasciitis) and has already been ruled out for Week 11. Regardless, Manning owns a career low touchdown percentage (2.8) and adjusted yards per attempt (5.0) in 2015, and he’s thrown an interception on 5.3% of his passes, a career high. Brock Osweiler will start in place of Manning in Week 11 and possibly the foreseeable future.

Houston Texans

Targets: DeAndre Hopkins (22, 14, 15, 12, 11, 11), Nate Washington (0*, 0, 0, 16, 6*, 5), Cecil Shorts (10, 0, 6, 0, 0, 7), Alfred Blue (0, 0, 1, 0, 5, 1), Jonathan Grimes (7, 4, 0, 1, 3, 1), Chris Polk (4, 3, 2, 3, 2, 0)

RB Touches: Alfred Blue (6, 7, 0, 3, 19, 13), Chris Polk (6, 3, 9, 7, 9, 4), Jonathan Grimes (8, 12, 0, 0, 2, 7)

Red zone Targets: DeAndre Hopkins (7, 0, 2, 1, 1, 1), Cecil Shorts (2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Nate Washington (0*, 0, 0, 3, 0, 0)

Red zone Carries: Chris Polk (0, 2, 0, 1, 2, 1, 0) and Alfred Blue (5, 1, 0, 0, 2, 0, 2)

CBs Thrown At: Johnathan Joseph 2, 8, 9, 3, 8, 9 (2-9, 5-55-1, 5-54, 3-21, 5-42, 6-57) and Kevin Johnson 3, 7, 9, 3, 3, 5 (2-8, 3-33, 5-72, 3-73-2, 1-12, 4-37)

Analysis: DeAndre Hopkins now has nine straight games of 10 or more targets and is bearing down on Pierre Garcon (11 straight games in 2013) for the second longest streak of 10-plus targets since 1992 (when target tracking began). Rob Moore leads this streak with 20 straight games of double-digit targets from games in 1996-1998.

Here is the Texans’ backfield snap split in the two games since Arian Foster was injured in Week 7: Alfred Blue (66 snaps), Jonathan Grimes (41), and Chris Polk (22). Unless you’re desperate or lost a bad bet, continue to avoid this backfield for lineup decisions.

Indianapolis Colts – On Bye in Week 10

Targets: T.Y. Hilton (13, 9, 9, 15, 7, 6), Donte Moncrief (9, 3, 11, 6, 7, 4), Frank Gore (7, 0, 3, 8, 3, 3), Andre Johnson (2, 7, 6, 4, 8, 3), Dwayne Allen (0, 1, 3, 1, 3, 3), Coby Fleener (12, 3, 6, 5, 11, 6), Ahmad Bradshaw (1, 2, 1, 2)

RB Touches: Frank Gore (17, 22, 15, 14, 25, 29) and Ahmad Bradshaw (5, 2, 8, 7)

Red zone Targets: T.Y. Hilton (1, 2, 2, 3, 0, 0), Andre Johnson (0, 3, 0, 0, 2, 0), Donte Moncrief (1, 0, 1, 2, 0, 0), Dwayne Allen (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0), Frank Gore (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Coby Fleener (2, 1, 0, 0, 5, 0)

Red zone Carries: Frank Gore (4, 4, 2, 0, 0, 5) and Ahmad Bradshaw (1, 0, 0, 3)

CBs Thrown At: Vontae Davis 9, 5, 4, 5, 10, 5 (4-55, 3-28-1, 1-10, 3-27, 3-46-1, 4-12-1), Greg Toler 9, 9, 9, 8, 10 (7-103, 6-102, 4-74, 5-103, 5-115-1), Darius Butler 0, 12, 1, 3, 4, 4 (10-134-1, 1-6, 1-19, 2-23, 3-14-1, 3-34)

Jacksonville Jaguars

Targets: Allen Robinson (12, 9, 12, 9, 11, 11), Allen Hurns (15, 6, 7, 8, 8, 9), T.J. Yeldon (3, 6, 0, 3, 3, 6), Julius Thomas (2, 13, 5, 8, 5), Marcedes Lewis (8, 4, 2, 2, 1, 2)

RB Touches: T.J. Yeldon (16, 0, 21, 17, 6, 23)

Red zone Targets: Allen Robinson (1, 2, 0, 1, 0, 4), Allen Hurns (2, 1, 1, 1, 0, 1), T.J. Yeldon (0, 2, 0, 1, 0, 0), Julius Thomas (0, 0, 0, 1, 1)

Red zone Carries: T.J. Yeldon (3, 1, 0, 3, 1, 2)

CBs Thrown At: Aaron Colvin 5, 0, 5, 8, 8, 3 (2-24, 0-0, 4-41, 4-35, 6-64, 3-30-1) and Davon House 11, 6*, 15, 4, 7, 12 (5-33, 2-24, 10-138-2, 2-24, 4-75-1, 6-89-1)

Analysis: This section of Targets and Touches has basically been one giant love-fest for Allen Robinson and I have not given enough attention to the other “Allen” in Jacksonville… Allen Hurns. Hurns now has seven straight games with a touchdown reception and has at least four receptions and 60 yards receiving in six of nine games. He’s battled through foot and abdominal injuries all year and has played exceptionally well despite these ailments. He’s a locked-in WR2 whenever he suits up due to the fact he’ll automatically fall into 7-9 targets per-game.

Just as a note: T.J. Yeldon was in a walking boot on Monday and missed practice on Tuesday of this week. Yeldon mentioned on Tuesday that he'll "be fine." The Jags' are on a short week with a Thursday Night game against the Titans, so be sure to follow his updates as the week progresses.

Kansas City Chiefs

Targets: Jeremy Maclin (13, 12, 4*, 0, 5, 6), Travis Kelce (7, 6, 7, 6, 8, 9), Chris Conley (7, 3, 7, 7, 1, 0), Charcandrick West (3, 2, 2, 5, 6, 5), Albert Wilson (0, 0, 6, 6, 4, 4)

RB Touches: Charcandrick West (6, 8, 10, 24, 23, 29)

Red zone Targets: Jeremy Maclin (2, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Travis Kelce (2, 1, 1, 0, 2, 0), Chris Conley (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Charcandrick West (0, 0, 0, 1, 3, 0), Albert Wilson (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 2)

Red zone Carries: Charcandrick West (0, 0, 2, 7, 3, 2)

CBs Thrown At: Marcus Peters 5, 12, 10, 9, 5, 7 (4-81-1, 9-86-1, 4-46, 6-125, 3-40-1, 1-17) and Sean Smith 3, 7, 4, 8, 9, 8 (1-5, 4-68, 4-76, 4-49-1, 5-76, 2-19)

Analysis: Charcandrick West’s snap percentage over last three weeks: 87.5%, 83.6%, and 87.3%. West has handled 66 of the Chiefs 79 running back carries during that three-week span. With games against the Chargers (twice), Raiders (twice), Bills, Ravens, and Browns left on the docket, West is a sure-fire top-8 running back for the rest of the season based on sheer opportunity coupled with a cozy remaining schedule for production.

Miami Dolphins

Targets: Jarvis Landry (12, 4, 5, 8, 13, 12), Lamar Miller (2, 3, 3, 5, 7, 8), Jordan Cameron (9, 8, 2, 5, 1, 3), Rishard Matthews (3, 6, 3, 12, 4, 6), Kenny Stills (8, 2, 0, 7, 5, 4), Jay Ajayi (0, 0)

RB Touches: Lamar Miller (8, 21, 17, 14, 17, 22) and Jay Ajayi (5, 6)

Red zone Targets: Lamar Miller (0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 2), Jarvis Landry (5, 1, 1, 0, 0, 2), Jordan Cameron (2, 2, 0, 0, 1, 1), Rishard Matthews (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Kenny Stills (1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 0)

Red zone Carries: Lamar Miller (0, 1, 2, 1, 3, 1) and Jay Ajayi (1, 1)

CBs Thrown At: Brent Grimes 3, 3*, 10, 9, 6, 5 – Inactive in Week 10 (illness) (3-89, 5-73, 4-44, 4-52-1, 5-143-1) and Jamar Taylor 4, 5, 9, 8, 1, 2 (3-31, 3-43, 6-103-1, 3-36, 0-0, 1-9)

Analysis: From Week 6 on – after Joe Philbin was canned -- Lamar Miller is fourth in targets (24), third in receptions (23), and second in receiving yards (232) among running backs. His PPR finishes during that span: RB10, RB1, RB11, RB2, and RB5.

New England Patriots

Targets: Rob Gronkowski (5, 5, 16, 9, 5, 7), Danny Amendola (3, 9, 9, 1, 5, 11), Brandon LaFell (8, 7, 9, 6), Scott Chandler (0, 3, 1, 2, 3, 3), LeGarrette Blount (0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 2)

RB Touches: LeGarrette Blount (13, 17, 3, 18, 29, 21)

Red zone Targets: Rob Gronkowski (0, 0, 7, 0, 1, 1), Scott Chandler (0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1), Danny Amendola (0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0), LeGarrette Blount (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 1), Brandon LaFell (0, 1, 2, 1)

Red zone Carries: LeGarrette Blount (2, 0, 0, 1, 7, 8)

CBs Thrown At: Malcolm Butler 4, 13, 9, 8, 5, 10 (1-17, 7-83-1, 5-82, 6-61, 3-15, 3-92-1) and Logan Ryan 3, 10, 6, 10, 9, 4 (1-3, 6-73, 4-23, 5-54, 5-88, 3-39)

Analysis: Now down Dion Lewis (ACL) and Julian Edelman (foot), the Patriots have lost their two best drive-sustaining pieces over the last two weeks. This obviously means Danny Amendola needs to be owned in all league formats, but it’s worth noting Lewis and Edelman were Brady’s No. 2 and No. 3 targets in terms of efficiency from 2014-15, per the RotoViz Adjusted Yards per Attempt Application. Belichick, Brady, and Company will endure – and Edelman's absence just means more work for “Gronk”, Brandon LaFell, and the aforementioned Amendola.

New York Jets

Targets: Brandon Marshall (11, 9, 7, 18, 8, 10), Eric Decker (5, 7, 12, 7, 9, 11), Bilal Powell (1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Chris Ivory (2, 3, 2, 5, 3, 3)

RB Touches: Chris Ivory (29, 23, 17, 18, 26, 21) and Bilal Powell (1, 5, 0, 0, 0, 0)

Red zone Targets: Brandon Marshall (2, 0, 1, 2, 2, 3), Eric Decker (2, 1, 2, 1, 1, 3), Chris Ivory (0, 0, 2, 1, 1, 0), Bilal Powell (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

Red zone Carries: Chris Ivory (2, 4, 3, 1, 5, 4) and Bilal Powell (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Darrelle Revis 3, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7 (1-2, 2-8-1, 3-47, 4-34, 2-50, 3-14), Buster Skrine 10, 5, 3, 2, 8, 1 (6-82, 3-28, 3-31, 2-11-1, 7-98-1, 1-0), Antonio Cromartie 4, 7, 6, 6, 9, 5 (0-0, 5-64-1, 2-26, 3-32, 7-140-2, 3-77-1) -- Inactive in Week 10

Analysis: Per RotoGrinders’ advanced statistics, Chris Ivory, Brandon Marshall, and Eric Decker account for 57.9% of the Jets’ receptions and carries this year. Marshall and Decker make up 53.8% of the Jets’ targets alone.

Oakland Raiders

Targets: Amari Cooper (9, 4, 6, 9, 13, 9), Michael Crabtree (6, 9, 8, 12, 12, 5), Latavius Murray (5, 4, 1, 2, 2, 5), Mychal Rivera (3, 3, 3, 0, 3, 7), Clive Walford (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 4)

RB Touches: Latavius Murray (19, 16, 16, 21, 19*, 17)

Red zone Targets: Amari Cooper (1, 0, 0, 0, 2, 1), Michael Crabtree (0, 0, 1, 1, 0, 1), Mychal Rivera (1, 0, 2, 0, 0, 0), Clive Walford (0, 0, 0, 0, 3, 1)

Red zone Carries: Latavius Murray (1, 3, 3, 2, 1, 0)

CBs Thrown At: D.J. Hayden 5, 8, 13, 7, 15, 4 (4-56-1, 5-78, 10-75, 5-45-1, 11-136-1, 3-38) and David Amerson 8, 9, 5, 13, 14, 0 (5-44, 6-66, 4-47, 7-76, 9-174, 0-0)

Analysis: Per Rotoworld’s Evan Silva, Latavius Murray has one rushing touchdown in his last six games. In Week 11, Oakland faces a Detroit defense that has surrendered an NFL-high 11 rushing touchdowns. (Positive) regression is coming.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Targets: Antonio Brown (6, 8, 8, 11, 23, 14), Martavis Bryant (8, 8, 9, 7, 10), Heath Miller (3, 1, 2, 13, 6, 7), DeAngelo Williams (0, 0, 2, 4, 4, 2), Markus Wheaton (3, 2, 4, 2, 4, 2)

RB Touches: DeAngelo Williams (5, 1, 5, 13, 29, 18)

Red zone Targets: Heath Miller (1, 0, 0, 1, 0, 3), Antonio Brown (0, 1, 0, 4, 2, 3), Martavis Bryant (2, 2, 1, 4), Markus Wheaton (0, 0, 0, 1, 2, 0), DeAngelo Williams (0, 0, 0, 0, 1)

Red zone Carries: DeAngelo Williams (0, 0, 2, 0, 9, 3)

Analysis: Landry Jones sprained his ankle early in the first quarter against Cleveland, forcing Ben Roethlisberger (foot) to play as a backup. Big Ben subsequently exploded for 379 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception on 33 attempts. The Steelers’ offense is one of the most potent attacks in the league when Roethlisberger is at the helm.

Adding to that potency is second-year receiver, Martavis Bryant who has now played in 16 career games. He's scored a touchdown 11 of those 16 games and has three multi-touchdown outings. His career receiving totals to-date are: 53-1050-14 (99 targets). While he’s still not completely refined, Bryant is a touchdown-machine at any point of the field.

Analysis: Dexter McCluster led the Titans in targets in Week 10 with five. With Kendall Wright (MCL) still ailing, outside of Delanie Walker and Marcus Mariota in deeper/2QB leagues, this team should (hopefully) be avoided for weekly roster decisions.
