VCU 93, Richmond 82
VCU pulled away in the final three minutes and earned a season split with its local Atlantic 10 rival with a 93-82 victory over Richmond on Wednesday.
The Spiders, who knocked off the Rams in overtime on Jan. 24, tied the game at 79 with 3:13 to play on Terry Allen's three-pointer. But VCU's Treveon Graham immediately followed with a layup, sparking an 11-0 run that put some distance between his team and its crosstown foe.
Graham finished with 21 points, leading five VCU players in double figures. Juvonte Reddic just missed a double-double, with 16 points and nine rebounds. The Rams (24-6, 12-3) entered the night in second place in the conference, a game behind St. Louis.
Cedrick Lindsay scored 22 to lead the Spiders, who still have not quite locked up a spot in the 12-team conference tournament. Richmond (17-13, 7-8) is in a four-way tie for ninth, one game up on George Washington above the cut line, and closes the season at home against last-place Duquesne this weekend.
It was the final home game for VCU seniors Troy Daniels, Darius Theus and David Hinton. Theus finished with 13 points, three assists, two steals, two rebounds and a block, while the sharp-shooting Daniels finished with nine points and went 2 for 5 from three-point range.
