Report: Holdout Jones-Drew open to trade
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who continues his contract holdout, is now open to being traded, ESPN reported Tuesday based on sources.
This may be a response to comments made by owner Shad Khan.
"He's not here, and that's his decision," Khan told Yahoo! Sports last week. "Believe me, it's not a great concern. You hope for the best, and you plan for the worst. Our goals for the season don't change, and if he isn't here, he isn't here. I don't control it. It's his choice."
On Tuesday, Khan told the Florida Times-Union that his advice to Jones-Drew is, "Train's leaving the station. Run, get on it."
Khan continues to say the Jaguars want Jones-Drew back, and, despite the report that Jones-Drew is open to a trade, CBSSports.com reports that the Jaguars aren't looking to trade Jones-Drew at the moment.
The gap between Jones-Drew and management seems to be widening, and it's unclear whether Jones-Drew will return in time for the Jaguars' Sept. 9 opener.
Jones-Drew, who was the NFL's leading rusher last season, wants a new deal, although he has two years remaining on his existing five-year $31 million contract. He is scheduled to make $4.45 million this season and $4.95 million in 2013.
