NHL Roundup: Bruins' Bergeron has punctured lung, Asimov re-signs with Columbus
Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron is hospitalized under observation for a punctured lung, general manager Peter Chiarelli told reporters on Wednesday.
Chiarelli said the lung injury did not occur during a game but gave no additional details.
Bergeron was not at TD Garden with the rest of the team for its end-of-the-season departure on Wednesday.
A valiant Bergeron played 17 minutes, 45 seconds in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night with a broken rib and torn rib cartilage. The Bruins lost 3-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Bergeron was injured in Game 5 on Saturday night in Chicago during the second period and was taken to a local hospital for observation. But he returned to the team hotel that night and came home to Boston with the team the following morning.
---The Columbus Blue Jackets agreed to terms on a new three-year contract with restricted free agent forward Artem Anisimov.
The deal is expected to be in the $10 million to $11 million range, according to reports. He was in the final season of a two-year, $3.75 million contract.
Anisimov, 25, was limited to 35 games this past season because of injuries but still finished third on the team in goals (11) and points (18). He came to Columbus before the season as part of the deal with the New York Rangers for Rick Nash.
---Veteran center Jaromir Jagr does not expect to be back with the Boston Bruins next season.
A pending unrestricted free agent, the 41-year-old Jagr was the second-oldest player in the NHL this past season behind Anaheim's Teemu Selanne.
"I don't think they want me back," Jagr said, according to the MetroWest Daily News.
Despite suffering a back injury in the Stanley Cup Final, Jagr said he's not ready to retire. In 45 regular-season games, Jagr showed he can still play with 16 goals and 19 assists. But the Bruins may not have the cap room to sign him for next season.
The Bruins also will have to decide whether or not to re-sign pending unrestricted free agent winger Nathan Norton, who had 19 points in 22 playoff games but suffered from shoulder problems during the season.
---The San Jose Sharks agreed to contract terms with restricted free-agent forwards James Sheppard and Andrew Desjardins.
Desjardins signed a two-year deal and Sheppard's contract is for one year. No financial details were disclosed by the team.
Sheppard, 25, played in 32 regular-season games and had one goal and three assists. He also was on the ice for all 11 of the Sharks' playoff games.
Desjardins, 26, had two goals and one assists in 42 regular-season games and also appeared in all 11 postseason games.
