NCAA denies USC's appeal

The NCAA announced Friday that it rejected an appeal by USC to have its imposed penalties reduced.

USC has had its scholarships reduced since 2010 and forced to have a 75-player limit stemming from a case involving former running back Reggie Bush. The imposed penalties expire in 2014.

USC athletic director Pat Haden and vice president for athletic compliance Dave Roberts were in negotiations with NCAA president Mark Emmert and other officials this week in Indianapolis.

The NCAA recently reduced sanctions against Penn State related to the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal.

"There is no comparison between USC and Penn State," the NCAA said in a statement. "USC's appeal was denied, and there is no further consideration being given."

ESPN reported earlier that it was unlikely the NCAA would reduce USC's sanctions because the school went through a traditional process, unlike Penn State.
