MLB roundup: Inge reportedly signs with A's
Recently released infielder Brandon Inge reportedly has agreed to a contract with the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.
The slugger, who was released by the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, may find himself playing third base in Oakland, FoxSports.com reported.
Inge, 34, was batting .100 with in 20 at-bats this season. He has a .264 career batting average with 140 homers.
---The New York Yankees announced Sunday that struggling starting pitcher Freddy Garcia has been sent to the bullpen.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said it was possible right-hander David Phelps would move into the rotation.
Garcia has struggled this season as a starter. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 12.51 ERA. He has a career record of 145-96 with a 4.11 ERA.
On Saturday, Garcia allowed six earned runs in 1 2/3 innings. It was the second game in a row he had failed to make it through two innings.
Also, the Yankees recalled pitcher D.J. Mitchell. optioned Cody Eppley to Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Mitchell was 3-1 with a 3.13 ERA in four Triple A starts.
--- The Washington Nationals have placed outfielder Mark DeRosa on the first 15-day disabled list Sunday with a left oblique strain.
To take his roster spot, the Nationals recalled first baseman/outfielder Tyler Moore from Triple-A Syracuse.
DeRosa, 37, was hitting .081 in 13 games this season with two RBIs.
---Detroit Tigers right-hander Doug Fister reportedly will make a rehabilitation start this week.
Fister, who was placed on the disabled list at the beginning of the month with a rib cage strain, will pitch Wednesday for the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens, according to CBS Sports.com.
Fister has started one game, going 3 2/3 innings with a 0.00 ERA. He had a 2.83 ERA last season.
---The perjury trial of Roger Clemens over alleged steroid use is scheduled to resume Monday. Clemens, is on trial on charges of lying to Congress in 2008 about whether he used performance-enhancing drugs.
