Bucs put RB Martin on injured reserve

The SportsXchange

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed running back Doug Martin on injured reserve Friday because of a torn labrum in his shoulder, ending his season.

Martin has not played since suffering the injury on October 20, and Martin is expected to have surgery to repair the problem.

The Buccaneers were hoping Martin could regain enough motion in the shoulder to return to action this season, but as his condition worsened, it became apparent that was not going to happen.

Martin had 456 yards rushing on 127 carries and 12 receptions for 66 yards in his six games this season.

Last season, as a rookie, Martin rushed for 1,454 yards and caught 49 passes for 472 yards. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2012.

Mike James replaced Martin the last two weeks and is expected to remain the starter in Martin's absence.

The Buccaneers promoted linebacker Ka'lial Glaud from the practice squad to fill the open spot on their roster.
