Source: Bucks trade for Maggette

In a move designed to deliver more scoring punch, the Milwaukee Bucks traded for Golden State Warriors forward Corey Maggette(notes) on Tuesday.

The Bucks sent Charlie Bell(notes) and center Dan Gadzuric(notes) to the Warriors.

Maggette has three years and $31 million left on his contract, and gives the Bucks insurance should forward John Salmons leave as a free agent this summer. Maggette averaged nearly 20 points for the Warriors as a sixth man and shot better than 50 percent from the field.

The Warriors had been trying to rid themselves of Maggette’s original five-year, $50 million contract from his first full season in Golden State in 2008-09. As ownership waits to complete a sale of the franchise, the Warriors are in serious cost-cutting mode and determined to turn the team over to a younger, inexpensive nucleus.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first reported the trade.
