Bryce Dixon will be allowed to re-enroll at USC, but he cannot rejoin the Trojans football team.

Dixon, a tight end, was expelled from the university in May following a Title IX sexual misconduct investigation. However, a Los Angeles judge this week issued a stay to put Dixon’s expulsion on hold, granting a petition Dixon filed in court on Wednesday.

Dixon’s attorney’s claimed the school’s investigation into his alleged sexual misconduct did not allow for due process. He hoped to rejoin the football team, but in a statement, USC said that would not happen.

Here’s USC’s statement in full:

USC has reviewed the judge's written order staying Bryce Dixon's expulsion from the university pending further review by the court. We will comply with the court's order and allow Mr. Dixon to re-enroll in the university immediately.

The judge's order does not impact or reverse the findings made by the university in this student conduct case. The university stands by its student disciplinary processes, which were conducted in compliance with state and federal law, including Title IX and the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act ("VAWA"), and with federal guidance issued by the Office for Civil Rights.

Where there is a disciplinary finding this serious in nature, the university prohibits students from representing the university, including as a member of its athletic teams. So while we will comply with the judge's order staying the expulsion, Mr. Dixon will not be reinstated as a student-athlete.

Dixon was projected to start for the Trojans at tight end in 2015 after catching 14 passes for 198 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman last season.

He was suspended for a November game against Cal last year for a student conduct issue, but returned to play the final three games of the season. He also missed all of spring practice for another student conduct issue before the school announced his expulsion on May 14.
