A 2015 Tennessee commit caused a bit of a stir with some comments he made about Alabama on Twitter Thursday night.

Andrew Butcher, a Rivals four-star defensive end from Alpharetta, Georgia, has been committed to Tennessee for more than a year. He was watching The Opening, an elite prospect camp, on TV when he says he saw an Alabama commit “try to shove” new four-star Tennessee commit Kahlil McKenzie.

That elicited this rowdy response, via Al.com.

As expected, he received plenty of responses from Alabama fans, who weren’t pleased with Butcher’s sentiment or prediction that the Vols would beat the Crimson Tide in the future. Butcher didn’t seem to mind.

Though he later deleted the tweets, Butcher told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that if he was there at The Opening, he would have “been right next to Khalil shoving the Alabama guys back.”

Butcher told the AJC that as a part of a rebuilding Tennessee program, he's eager to play a part in the long-time rivalry that has been dominated by Alabama in recent years.

“I knew it would get some reaction. I knew that was what the Tennessee fans would want to hear. Just believing you can beat Alabama is half of the battle because most people are just scared of them. I respect Alabama, but I’m not scared of them,” Butcher said.

Butcher’s future teammates were on board with his tweet, including McKenzie.

“(McKenzie) said he loved it, and he can’t wait to play Alabama in college and make them not so cocky anymore,” Butcher said. “They need a reality check.”

The Volunteers are coming off a 5-7 season, the first under Butch Jones. Jones’ 2015 recruiting class currently has 20 members and is ranked No. 5 in the nation by Rivals. Alabama has 19 commits and the top-ranked 2015 class so far according to Rivals.

The two teams square off in Knoxville on October 25 where the Volunteers will be looking for their first win in the series since 2006.
