Boston College QB Darius Wade out with broken ankle

Boston College quarterback Darius Wade suffered a broken ankle during Friday night’s 14-0 loss to Florida State, the university announced Saturday.

According to Sports Illustrated, Wade will have surgery and miss three months while recovering.

The injury occurred during the fourth quarter when Wade dropped back to pass and was sacked by Nile Lawrence-Stample.

Wade had completed just 4 of 12 passes for 47 yards and was the Eagles' leading rusher with 38 yards at the time of his injury.

Both quarterbacks Jeff Smith and Troy Flutie, the nephew of Boston College great Doug Flutie, played against the Seminoles in the fourth quarter, but Smith is next in line to start on the depth chart. Neither player was able to jumpstart an offense that gained just 195 yards Friday night.

Wade, a sophomore, should be available for a medical redshirt since he played fewer than three games this season.

Boston College host Northern Illinois next week.
