Miss Teen South Carolina Tebows after winning competition, sets Twitter on fire
Just when you thought that Tebowing had been relegated back to the land of passé, a pageant winner pulls off the move and the world is sent aflutter.
As reported by The State and brought to Prep Rally's attention by Off the Bench and a handful of other sites, 17-year-old Rachel Wyatt celebrated her crowning at the Miss Teen South Carolina pageant by dropping to her knee and Tebowing.
The teen won the pageant in part by perfoming a dance routine to the Miley Cyrus song "The Climb." The Piedmont (S.C.) High student was emotional after her victory, but eventually composed herself and reflected on why she chose to drop to a knee.
According to Wyatt, the move wasn't meant to be braggadocios or to get any additional attention on social media or elsewhere. Rather, Wyatt was trying to honor God by imitating Tebow … who claims he is honoring God every time he drops to his knee in celebration.
"His whole goal of doing that is to give all the glory and honor to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and that's exactly what I was trying to do," Wyatt told The State. "[Wyatt's sister] had said beforehand, 'How cool would it be if the winner got down and did The Tebow.'"
Well, now the winner has done the Tebow. Whether or not Wyatt uses any of the $12,000 of scholarship funds she's entitled to at Florida to follow in Tebow's footsteps or not, she's created an indelible moment that will be branded with her -- and the surprisingly enduring legacy of "The Tebow" -- forever.
