Women's World Cup: Where to watch in Augusta, when the United States takes the field

This week the greatest female soccer players in the world will convene in Australia and New Zealand to determine who is the best of the best at the FIFA Women's World Cup.

This one will be particularly special for the U.S. team as it will be all-star Megan Rapinoe's last world cup and its a chance for the team to keep the crown for a third consecutive world cup, something no one has ever done before.

So how can Augustans join the billions watching from around the globe and, if they want to make a day of it, which sports bars should they head to for a bite with the game? Here are those answers and more details:

When is the Women's World Cup?

The preliminary group stages kick off Thursday, July 20, and because the games are happening several time zones away, many of the games will broadcast very early in the morning in Augusta. The first is New Zealand versus Norway at 3 a.m. EST.

There are three games scheduled every day with the final 16 facing off on Aug. 16. The finals are slated for 6 a.m. Aug. 20.

When does the U.S. team play?

In order to make it into the Round of 16, the U.S. has to be in the top two of Group E. Their group matches are as follows:

  • U.S. versus Vietnam at 9 p.m. July 21.

  • U.S. versus the Netherlands at 9 p.m. July 26.

  • U.S. versus Portugal at 3 a.m. Aug. 1.

Where can Augustans watch the World Cup?

Fox Sports is carrying all 64 games of the World Cup in English live on its local TV stations and streamed on its app. Augustans can catch 29 of the games on FOX 54 and 35 on FS1. The tournament will also be broadcast in Spanish with all 64 matches streaming on Peacock, 33 showing on Telemundo and 31 on Universo.

TV Guide reports the first U.S. game is scheduled for broadcast on FOX 54 and Telemundo.

Sports bars are a great place to grab some grub and watch the games with friends. While there are little-to-no options for the early morning games, there are multiple locations that are open late for the evening games. Here are some of them:

  • Dave and Buster's in Augusta, open until midnight Sunday-Thursday and until 1 a.m. Friday-Saturday.

  • Carolina Ale House in Augusta, open until 2 a.m. all week.

  • Riverfront Pub and Sports in Augusta, open until 1 a.m. Sundays and until 2 a.m. the rest of the week.

  • Twin Peaks in Augusta, open until midnight Sunday-Thursday and until 1 a.m. Friday-Saturday.

  • Highlander in North Augusta, open until 2 a.m. all week.

  • Buffalo Wild Wings in Augusta, open until 1 a.m. Sunday-Thursday and until 2 a.m. Friday-Saturday.

  • World of Beer in Augusta, open until midnight Sunday-Thursday and until 1 a.m. Friday-Saturday.
