Will Vegas fans boo Bettman if Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup?

A time-honoured NHL tradition may be coming to an end on 2018.

Gary Bettman, one of the most hated men in the NHL despite his 25 years as commissioner, is certainly used to it by now. We honestly can’t even remember the last time Bettman presented the Cup to its winner without having to wait for the boo birds to settle down.

For years, Bettman getting booed has been as safe a bet as putting money down on the sun to rise in the morning, but there’s something different about this particular Cup final.

The Vegas Golden Knights, still brimming with confidence after a record-breaking season, feature a fledgling fanbase that hasn’t quite been exposed to the Bettman hatred that many others have. And if you’ve seen the vibe at an NHL game in Vegas, you’d likely agree that the fans would probably be far too thrilled with a Stanley Cup win to throw shade at the commissioner.

Ken Boehlke, a Golden Knights blogger who writes for The Sin Bin, isn’t sure how Vegas fans would react to Bettman presenting the Cup to the Knights, but he’s got an idea of what he’d like to see.

“That’s a great question,” Boehlke shared with Yahoo Canada Sports. “I wouldn’t. I think he should be cheered. I think we should start a new tradition and cheer him, and we’ll be the only place that Gary Bettman actually wants to bring the Cup. That would really spark the conspiracy theories moving forward.”
