Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.

Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Calvert-Lewin scored his 50th Premier League goal to help Everton beat West Ham. The hosts had the first chance of the match. Paqueta flicked the ball over the head of Patterson and drilled a pass across to Bowen, but he blasted his shot wide. Harrison had a shot saved by Areola before an entertaining second half. Bowen had a goal-bound effort blocked by Branthwaite, with Everton scoring soon after. Harrison found Calvert-Lewin, who rolled past two defenders before driving his strike across the goal and into the bottom corner. Bowen smashed a shot over from a tight angle before Doucoure had a golden opportunity. He got onto the end of a clever flick from Calvert-Lewin, but his effort was pushed wide by Areola. Paqueta then found Benrahma with an excellent cross for West Ham's final chance. However, his powerful volley was stopped by Pickford. Attention now turns to the EFL Cup. However, they seemed to lack energy as the half progressed and were being put under pressure by Everton. As for the away side, they grew into the game. Harrison has been positive on the wing and Mykolenko has delivered a few good crosses. However, they will want to get more out of Calvert-Lewin, who has only had a couple of half chances to score.

Harrison won possession in the midfield and drove forward with it. He had options to his left and right but struck his low strike straight at Areola.
