Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering City, who also won the Champions League and FA Cup last season, will have to see off Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest to claim an unprecedented sixth league title in seven years.
Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Wow, what an end to a contest, which somehow finishes 2-2! West Ham will be wondering how they couldn’t find a winner, while Burnley will be disappointed to let their winning position slip. The Clarets went into half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead, and looked the sharper of the two sides after Fofana smashed a ferocious opener before Mavrapanos’ own goal gave the hosts a mountain to climb. The second half was a whole different matter though, as Paqueta halved the deficit with not even a minute played. Former Burnley man Ings then saw an equaliser ruled out by the VAR for offside but it didn’t take long for him to respond with a clever turn and volley in the Burnley box brought West Ham level. Both sides had late chances to get the winner, and you feel a point does neither side any favours. The home team ended with an xG of 1.93 and edged possession with 52 per cent, turning their attention again to the Europa League next week. Burnley’s xG of 0.65 couldn’t trouble the Hammers in the second half and the Clarets will want to replicate the first-half performance against Brentford in the league.

Burnley are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League matches when leading at half-time (W5, D6) dating back to August 2021. West Ham on the other hand have a record of W1, D1, L5 when trailing at half-time this season. It would take an early goal in the second half to try and turn this one around, you’d imagine, and the Hammers certainly need to pose more of an attacking threat if they want to trouble Burnley.

Half-time here at a wet and rainy London Stadium, and one manager will be a whole lot more pleased than his counterpart going into the dressing room. Starting with the home side, West Ham have looked incredibly leggy off the ball, and even more sloppy on it. Numerous astray passes, no threat on Trafford’s goal, and weak defending sums up their first half performance. And with only 0.08 xG, Moyes might look to his bench for some attacking inspiration. Meanwhile, Burnley will want more of the same. Fofana got the first goal of the game with a clean strike from 25 yards out – a goal of the month contender for sure. Mavropanos then helped the away side and handed them the second goal on a plate, putting a fluffed clearance into his own net. Burnley’s xG of 0.10 might suggest they haven’t been pressing West Ham’s defence, but far from it. They have controlled the game and their patience has paid off so far.
