Weather delays Missouri's SEC Softball Tournament quarterfinals game: Updates, forecast

Missouri softball’s game on Thursday in the quarterfinal of the SEC Softball Tournament has been delayed due to lightning in the area. The call was made during the fifth inning of the Tigers' quarterfinals bout against Arkansas, with the Tigers up 2-1.

The beginning of play at the SEC Softball Tournament on Thursday in Auburn, Alabama, was postponed shortly before the first game of the day, which was due to begin at 10 a.m.

Missouri’s game was due to begin at 1 p.m. or 35 minutes following the conclusion of the opening game of the day. It ended up starting after 8 p.m. The Tigers' already postponed game entered a mid-game delay at approximately 9:25 p.m.

Missouri defeated No. 13-seeded Ole Miss 3-1 in the opening round of the conference tournament, putting up all of its runs in a third-inning outburst and receiving a six-inning, three-hit gem from ace Laurin Krings in the circle.

The Razorbacks, who won the regular-season series against Missouri in early April in Fayetteville, Arkansas, received a bye into the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament courtesy of their regular-season record.

The SEC Network broadcast announced that Missouri and Arkansas' game will resume at 9 a.m. Friday morning.

There is lightning in the forecast between 9 and 10 a.m. Friday in Auburn, Alabama, per AccuWeather.

Missouri softball vs. Arkansas enters lightning delay in fifth inning

For the second time of the day, the SEC Softball Tournament has entered a weather delay.

Per the SEC Network broadcast, lightning rolled into the area in Auburn, Alabama, causing a delay to Missouri and Arkansas' quarterfinals bout in the top of the fifth inning.

When play was delayed, Missouri was up 2-1 and at the plate in the top of the fifth. The Tigers have runners on the corners and no outs in the inning.

The Southeastern Conference announced that it would provide an update at 9:58 p.m. It is unknown when play will resume.

Missouri softball vs. Arkansas game time set

No. 8 LSU upset top-seeded Tennessee, and now the Missouri Tigers are on the clock.

Mizzou's quarterfinal game against Arkansas will begin at approximately 8:05 p.m., which is 35 minutes after the LSU-UT matchup concluded. It will be the final game of the day in Auburn, as the second half of the quarterfinals slate will be played Friday morning.

The winner of the Missouri-Arkansas matchup will face LSU in Friday evening's semifinals.

Play to resume at SEC Softball Tournament at 5:02 p.m., SEC announces

The Southeastern Conference confirmed in a social media post that play at the SEC Softball Tournament will begin at 5:02 p.m., starting with No. 1 Tennessee vs. No. 8 LSU.

The first pitch in Missouri's game against Arkansas will begin 35 minutes following the conclusion of the UT-LSU, which will put the start time in the approximate range of 7:30-8 p.m., if the game goes a regulation seven innings.

The SEC's post also says that the tournament semifinals are to go ahead as scheduled Friday evening, with the third and fourth games of the quarterfinals now due to be played Friday morning.

Play seemingly to resume at 5 p.m. at SEC Softball Tournament

According to a post from the LSU softball account, the first game of the day is now due to start at 5 p.m. — a seven-hour delay.

That means Missouri softball's game against Arkansas is not likely to begin until 8 p.m., with a 35-minute warmup period given to teams following the conclusion of the previous game.
