Waupun girls basketball senior, Kayl Petersen, recommits from Marquette to Virginia Tech; No. 68 on ESPN Top-100 joins top-10 recruit class

WAUPUN - After initially committing to play at Marquette on Oct. 22, 2022, Waupun girls basketball senior and three-time East Central Conference Player of the Year, Kayl Petersen, has recommitted to play at Virginia Tech.

Petersen led the Warriors to their first WIAA Division 3 state championship as a sophomore in 2022 and was voted first-team All-State this past season after she averaged 17.7 points, 12.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.3 blocks and 2 steals per game.

Petersen announced in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on April 3, that she had chosen to reopen her recruitment after Hokies coach Megan Duffy left her role with the Golden Eagles to accept the position with Virginia Tech the same day.

Petersen is listed as the No. 68-ranked recruit in the country, according to ESPN, joining a top-10 recruiting class and a Hokies team that finished ranked No. 13 in the AP Poll after going 25-8 overall and 14-4 in the ACC, securing a conference championship and an appearance in the Round of 32 as a No. 4-seed in this year's NCAA Tournament. Virginia Tech has reached the NCAA Tournament in four consecutive seasons and went to the Final Four in 2023.
