BATTLE CREEK - The B.O.B. is back!

B.O.B. stands for the Best Of Battle Creek. Each week throughout the spring, we are going to ask, "Who is the Best Of Battle Creek?" as we look at each position in baseball and softball among the city and area high school teams.

Nominations for each position come from the area baseball and softball coaches with a little information on each player, and then it will be up to the Enquirer readers to decide who is the B.O.B.?

Class: Senior

Why she is the best 1B/3B in the Battle Creek area: Caroline Branham is a senior team captain and valuable leader and asset for the rebuilding Pennfield softball program. She also sees time at catcher as the versatile Panther is hitting .333 with a .492 on-base percentage with 23 runs scored and 14 RBI in 20 games.

Brooke Carden

School: Marshall

Class: Sophomore

Why she is the best 1B/3B in the Battle Creek area: After a breakout season last year, hitting .403 with 36 RBI in her first year on the varsity, Brooke Carden has taken it up to another level this season as the sophomore is hitting .535 with 45 RBI. Also a standout defensive player, Carden has only one error all season.

Class: Senior

Why she is the best 1B/3B in the Battle Creek area: An all-conference selection a year ago, Allison Edler is a senior leader for Homer who has been key to the Trojans' 20-2 start to the season. The third baseman is hitting .365 with 17 stolen bases.

Faith Hewkin

School: Lakeview

Class: Senior

Why she is the best 1B/3B in the Battle Creek area: A four-year starter and former All-City selection, Faith Hewkin is having a big senior season with a .453 batting average and a 1.22 OPS with three home runs, 29 RBI and 27 runs scored. With a big arm and a quick release, she is a force at third base on defense as well and will play at Calvin College next year.

School: Gull Lake

Class: Junior

Why she is the best 1B/3B in the Battle Creek area: Playing first base, Renee Huyck is a standout two-way player for Gull Lake, shining at the plate and with the glove. Batting .367 with 13 runs scored, Huyck has only two errors in the field and has a .974 fielding percentage this year. Taking a turn as pitcher as well, she is 6-4 on the season from the circle.

Class: Senior

Why she is the best 1B/3B in the Battle Creek area: A senior that is back with the program after a year off, Emma Jones is a big addition to the lineup with a .375 batting average with a .507 on-base percentage with 35 runs scored. A key defensive player for the Trojans at first base.

Why she is the best 1B/3B in the Battle Creek area: An all-league and all-district pick last year, Brealyn Lasky is a four-year starter who has played both first base and second base over her career. The No. 4 hitter in the Bronson lineup, Lasky is hitting .468 with a slugging percentage of .581 with 24 RBI.

Class: Junior

Why she is the best 1B/3B in the Battle Creek area: Cherry Reyenger has a high softball IQ and is a key defensive player for the developing Battle Creek Central squad. She helps limit additional runs being scored by opponents by understanding ball first at first base. She is also among the team leaders in RBIs.

School: Harper Creek

Class: Freshman

Why she is the best 1B/3B in the Battle Creek area: When she is not pitcher, Aleena Stahlhood is playing third base for Harper Creek. The freshman is having a breakout season at the plate, hitting .574 with 27 hits in 20 games and 17 RBI from the No. 2 spot in the order.
