The Commodores (22-14) fell just short last season in the NIT quarterfinals and now are hoping to avenge that loss in the same round. Vanderbilt now will take on UAB in this season's quarterfinals at Memorial Gymnasium.
The Blazers (27-9) have been a tough out so far, beating two SEC teams in Georgia and South Carolina. They also defeated Southern Miss and Morehead State in the first two rounds of the NIT to advance.
The winner of Wednesday's game will face Cincinnati or Utah Valley in the semifinal. The semifinalists on the other side of the bracket are North Texas — a team UAB also faced in Conference USA — and Wisconsin.
While the Commodores have been hot lately, winning 12 of their last 14 games, the same is true of the Blazers who have won nine of their last 10 games.
