Tuscola freshman named to All-WNC girls cross country team
Dec. 7—Julia Wells, a freshman cross country runner at Tuscola High School, was named to the Citizen-Times Second Team All-WNC Cross Country Team this week.
She is one of seven area girls named to the second team and one of only two freshmen. Wells finished fourth at the Mountain 7 Conference Championship, earning All-Conference honors.
She was named All-Region after finishing 10th at the October 3A West meet before finishing 21st at the state championships, the sixth-highest finishing freshman.
Caroline Barton, a Carolina Day School junior, was named girls' runner of the year, while Keith Payne of Swain County was named girls coach of the year.
