Top Somerset County baseball and softball performers for May 13-18

Athlete of the Week

Windber baseball player Lucas Oleksa was voted Daily American Somerset County Male Athlete of the Week while Berlin Brothersvalley softball player Elena Ritchey was selected Female Athlete of the Week for their efforts May 6-11.

Oleksa hit a 3-run home run and delivered four RBIs in a win over Ferndale.

Meanwhile, Ritchey allowed three earned runs on six hits and struck out 12 in a complete game 5-4, 9-inning win over Shade. She added a hit and an RBI.

Heritage All-Conference

Conemaugh Township members of the Heritage All-Conference Team for the winter season are Jon Updyke and Colin Dinyar (boys basketball), Jenna Brenneman (girls basketball), Colten Huffman (wrestling), Aubrey Johns (cheerleading), Sophia Stango, Tanner Hunsberger and Hayden Lingenfelter (chorus), Landon Weeks and Jonathan Fochtman (concert band).

Baseball

Berlin Brothersvalley 2, Shanksville-Stonycreek 0: Nick Koval doubled and drove in a run to lift the Mountaineers over the Vikings.

Koval pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and struck out eight. Pace Prosser drove in a run.

Luke Walker and Alec Thiele each had a hit for Shanksville.

Northern Bedford County 5, Windber 3: Lucas Oleksa went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Ramblers in a setback to the Black Panthers.

Chestnut Ridge 9, North Star 2: Bryson Durst recorded two hits and an RBI for the Cougars in a setback to the Lions.

Softball

Windber 12, Northern Bedford County 6: Kaylie Gaye went 2-for-3, including a triple, four RBIs and a run scored as the Ramblers doubled up the Black Panthers.

Layla Gray tallied two hits, an RBI and two runs while Skylee Miller added two hits and two RBIs for Windber.

Baseball

North Star 10, Meyersdale 8: The Cougars erased an 8-run deficit through three to capture a come-from-behind victory.

Andy Retassie, Austin Orris and Vance Kimmel each had two RBIs while Cayden Turner added three hits and an RBI for North Star.

Spencer Whitfield recorded three hits for Meyersdale, and Matt Hainsworth chipped in two RBIs for Meyersdale.

Softball

Berlin Brothersvalley 2, Tussey Mountain 1: The Mountaineers took advantage of Titan errors in the fifth to plate what proved to be the winning run.

Elena Ritchey earned the victory throwing a complete game, allowing three hits and striking out seven.

North Star 6, Conemaugh Township 0: Connor Yoder tallied two hits and two RBIs for the Cougars in a non-conference triumph.

Nolan Weible, Andy Retassie and Cayden Turner each had two hits for North Star. Turner allowed three hits and struck out nine over six innings.

Windber 2, Berlin Brothersvalley 0: Lucas Oleksa hit a solo home run, and Dawson Himes provided two hits and an RBI for the Ramblers in a narrow victory over the Mountaineers.

Windber's Andrew Scalia had two hits and reach 100 for his career. He tossed a complete game, allowing two hits and struck out nine

Softball

Berlin Brothersvalley 10, Windber 0 (6): Elena Ritchey recorded three hits, including a 3-run home run, four RBIs and two runs scored to propel the Mountaineers past the Ramblers.

Ritchey allowed three hits and struck out seven. Elsie Barna tallied two RBIs while Coral Prosser and Taylor Hillegass each chipped in two hits.

Shade 17, Blacklick Valley 2 (4): Payton Maddy provided two hits and five RBIs for the Panthers in a romp of the Vikings.

Tara Corradini went 3-for-3, including a double, triple, two RBIs and three runs scored for Shade. Kori Boozer, Patty Kovacs and Kaylee Jamison each recorded two hits.

Somerset 4, Tyrone 0: Lane Lambert drove in two runs lift Somerset over Tyrone.

Kahne Foltz and Callen Miller each had an RBI. Braeden Flower tossed six innings, allowing three hits, two walks and struck out five.

Inter-County Conference semifinal

Mount Union 5, North Star 0: Connor Yoder and Nolan Weible each tallied a hit for the Cougars in a setback to the Trojans.

Softball

Inter-County Conference semifinal

Claysburg-Kimmel 9, Meyersdale 1: Jessica Daughton provided two hits and Isabella Sleasman drove in the lone run for the Red Raiders in a setback to the Bulldogs.

Marcella Dupre tripled for Meyersdale.

Shade sweeps dh against Conemaugh Township: The Panthers came away with a 13-5 victory in Game 1.

Jaedyn Krupper recorded two hits and an RBI for Shade.

Lena Dull contributed four hits and an RBI while Andi Hunsberger added two hits and two RBIs for Conemaugh Township.

Shade blanked Conemaugh Township 14-0 in five innings in Game 2.

Krupper had two hits and three RBIs. Tara Corradini delivered three hits and two RBIs while Patty Kovacs and Kaylee Jamison each chipped in two RBIs.

Baseball

Somerset 10, Penns Valley 0 (5): Callen Miller recorded two hits and three RBIs to lift the Golden Eagles to a victory.

Cole Lucas and Lane Lambert each drove in two runs. Braeden Flower homered, and Zane Hagans added two hits. Cameron Nicklow allowed four hits and a walk, in a complete game.

WestPAC championship

Shanksville-Stonycreek 7, Blacklick Valley 4: Braxton Faidley provided two RBIs and a run scored to vault Shanksville past Blacklick Valley.

Grant Boozer delivered two hits, an RBI and scored a run, while Christian Musser contributed two hits and scored a run for Shanksville. Isaac Jamison pitched four innings to earn the win. Boozer tossed the final three frames.

Heritage Conference championship

Homer-Center 9, Conemaugh Township 3: Colin Dinyar tripled home a run and Brennan Lohr added an RBI for Conemaugh Township in a setback to the Wildcats.

Larry Weaver contributed two hits for Conemaugh Township.

Softball

Windber 10, Conemaugh Township 0 (5): Aaliyah James went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs to guide the Ramblers to a victory.

Kaylie Gaye tripled and drove in two runs while Nici Costlow added a hit and scored three runs. Skylee Miller gave up two hits and struck out five.

Chestnut Ridge 17, Turkeyfoot Valley 6: Kiley Mitchell tallied two hits, including a home run and two RBIs for the Rams in a setback to the Lions.

Kya King had two RBIs and Maleigha Younkin added two hits for Turkeyfoot.

WestPAC championship

Shade 13, Ferndale 3 (5): Jaedyn Krupper recorded two hits and four RBIs to propel the Panthers to a title.

Olivia Rapsky went 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Kori Boozer, Payton Maddy and Lindsay Frazier each had two hits for Shade. Tara Corradini struck out six.
