Top Shreveport-Bossier high football games in Week 9 — and predictions
Here's a look at some of the action set to take place in the Shreveport-Bossier City area on the ninth weekend of the 2023 Louisiana high school football season.
Airline (7-1, 4-1) at Parkway (7-1, 4-1)
When: Fri., 7 p.m.
This could be one of the best battles in the state this week pitting the Vikings’ explosive offense against the Panthers’ stout defense. We’ll see which side wins out.
Watson’s prediction: Airline 44, Parkway 40
Benton (4-4, 3-2) vs. Captain Shreve (7-1, 5-0)
When/where: Thurs., 7 p.m., Northwood Stadium
With the way they’ve played over the past three weeks, the Tigers are certainly capable of derailing the Gators in their quest for the District 1-5A championship.
Watson’s prediction: Captain Shreve 35, Benton 33
Haughton (3-5, 1-4) at Natchitoches Central (2-6, 1-4)
When/where: Fri., 7 p.m., Turpin Stadium
Both teams are in need of a win, but it won’t come easy for either the Buccaneers or NCHS.
Watson’s prediction: NCHS 28, Haughton 21
Southwood (0-8, 0-5) vs. Byrd (2-6, 2-3)
When/where: Fri., 5 p.m.; Indy Stadium
The Cowboys should put up a good fight, but the Jackets have a must-need win in their sights.
Watson’s prediction: Byrd 38, Southwood 18
Ouachita (2-6, 1-2) at Ruston (8-0, 3-0)
When: Fri., 7 p.m.
While the Lions are certainly talented enough to defeat the Bearcats, we don’t see that happening at Hoss Garrett field.
Watson’s prediction: Ruston 42, Ouachita 21
Northwood (4-4, 4-1) vs. Woodlawn (4-4, 2-3)
When/where: Fri., 8 p.m., Indy Stadium
This will be a testy contest of two teams seeking to secure enough wins to advance to the Class 4A state playoffs.
Watson’s prediction: Northwood 28, Woodlawn 25
Bossier (1-7, 0-5) at North DeSoto (7-1, 5-0)
When: Fri., 7 p.m.
The Griffins just seem to keep getting better and better each week, which doesn’t bode well for the Bearkats.
Watson’s prediction: North DeSoto 58, Bossier 7
Evangel (5-3, 4-1) vs. Huntington (5-3, 3-2)
When/where: Fri., 7 p.m., Northwood Stadium
We have a toss-up game here between the Eagles and the Raiders, but we believe a senior-led Evangel crew has a slight edge.
Watson’s prediction: Evangel 35, Huntington 30
Loyola (3-4, 2-1) at North Caddo (2-6,1-2)
When: Fri., 7 p.m., Sanders-Prudhomme Stadium
Normally a hard game to predict and the same is true this year. It’s tough to win in Vivian, but we give the Flyers the edge.
Watson’s prediction: Loyola 32, North Caddo 28
Calvary (8-0, 3-0) at Lakeside (3-5, 0-3)
When: Fri., 7 p.m.
The Cavaliers just keep rolling with talent that overmatches their public school opponents.
Watson’s prediction: Calvary 55, Lakeside 7
Last week: 10-0 (100%); Season: 70-10 (87.5%)
