Tobe Awaka scores 14 points in loss to France

France defeated Team USA, 89-86, Saturday in the FIBA U19 World Cup semifinals.

The contest took place in Debrecen, Hungary.

Tennessee’s Tobe Awaka recorded 14 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and one block for Team USA.

He converted 6-of-8 field goal attempts and 2-of-4 free throw attempts.

Team USA will next play in a third place game Sunday versus Turkey.

Team USA, host Hungary, South Korea, Egypt, Canada, Argentina, Madagascar, Brazil, China, Slovenia, Turkey, Japan, Lebanon, Serbia and Spain are competing in the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup.

Awaka appeared in 34 games as a freshman for the Vols during the 2022-23 season. He averaged 3.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game last season.
