Texas Tech to face Texas A&M in charity basketball exhibition

Grant McCasland and the Texas Tech basketball team will head to Denton for a charity exhibition against Texas A&M Sunday, Oct. 29.

The encounter will take place at The Super Pit at the University of North Texas, McCasland's former home, with ticket proceeds going to benefit the relief efforts for the wildfires in Maui.

U-Sports Group helped set up the Compete 4 Cause Classic exhibition doubleheader together with North Texas and Sam Houston starting the charitable efforts at 2 p.m.

Tech and A&M is scheduled to tip at 4:30 p.m.. The game will not be streamed.

Former Big 12 foes, Texas Tech and Texas A&M haven't played each other since 2012. It will also mark the unofficial debut of McCasland as the Red Raiders' head coach.

The Red Raiders begin the 2023-24 regular season at home Nov. 8 against Texas A&M-Commerce. Coincidentally, the Aggies will also play TAMU-Commerce in their season opener Nov. 6.

Two Texas Tech soccer players earned Big 12 Conference honors after leading the Red Raiders to two road wins at Texas and Baylor last week.

Ashleigh Williams was named offensive player of the week and Hannah Anderson defensive player of the week. This is Williams' second OPOW honor of the season. She is currently fourth in the nation and second in the Big 12 with 12 goals. Anderson had the game-winning header to knock off Texas.

Earlier this week, Williams was named the College Soccer news National Player of the Week. She posted three goals in Tech's wins, including two against Baylor.

Ranked 14th in the nation, Tech returns home Thursday to host Oklahoma at 7 p.m. at John Walker Soccer Complex. The Red Raiders will also host Cincinnati at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
