St. Johns Spotlight: Creekside's Christian Miller races again to No. 1 in United States

Whatever the year, Christian Miller isn't slowing down.

Already the nation's fastest in 2023, Creekside's senior sprinter raced to the top of the national high school list for 2024, running a wind-aided 10.14 seconds in the boys 100-meter dash during the two-day Florida Relays in Gainesville.

That time was just a notch below the 10.06 that the Georgia-signed Miller ran at last summer's USA Track & Field U20 National Championships, and becomes his fastest 100 to date against high school-only competition.

Miller's race was just one part of a solid weekend for Creekside track.

Sophomore teammate Josh Howell ran 10.35 to place second in the boys 100, Brittney Jennings set a new personal record 13.77 in the girls 100 hurdles, Janay Moorer placed fifth in the girls 400 with a personal-best 53.92 and sophomore Sarah Rose chopped two seconds off her 800 time with a 2:13.96.

St. Johns County meets, including the Bear Classic, Friday Knight Invite and Throwcoi Throwdown, add to a week highlighted by Friday's Gateway Conference championship meet at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.

Bartram Trail's McDuff earns national titles

Former Bartram Trail swimmer Macguire McDuff, now a junior at Florida, helped the Gators to a record-breaking week in the pool at the NCAA men's swimming and diving championships during the past week in Indianapolis.

McDuff teamed up with Adam Chaney, Josh Liendo and Episcopal graduate Julian Smith to set an NCAA record for the 200-yard medley relay in 1:20.15.

The same four swimmers combined for a pool-record 1:13.49 in the 200 freestyle relay and a second-place 2:44.21 in the 400 free relay.

The Gators placed third in the team standings with 378 points, behind only Arizona State and California.
