Springfield High, SHG hit their groove, and other girls basketball results from Thursday

Thursday’s results

SPRINGFIELD HIGH 51, MOUNT ZION 37: At Willard Duey Gym, Ariana Williams poured in 10 of her team-high 15 points in the second quarter in a nonconference win.

The Senators (11-7) led 16-14 by the end of the first period before extending the margin 30-17 at halftime. Keziah Toran and Aniyah Rhinehouse had 10 points apiece. Emma Scheffler hit three 3s for nine points.

Denver Anderson led Mount Zion with 24 points, converting four 3s.

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 62, MAHOMET-SEYMOUR 23: At Jim Belz Gym, Maggie Fleischli tallied eight of her 12 points in the first period to spur the Cyclones to a nonconference rout.

SHG (14-8) led 16-5 by the end of the opening frame. Callie Huston and Sophie Murphy each pitched in 12 points as well. Izzy Hassebrock had all of her seven points in the second quarter. Addy McElroy and Reese Watson added six points apiece.

Reese Gallier led Mahomet with eight points.

PETERSBURG PORTA/A-C CENTRAL 49, RIVERTON 15: At the Hawk Center, Karlie Hoke and Carson Arthalony combined for 29 points en route to a Sangamo Conference win.

Hoke had eight of her game-high 16 points in the second quarter. Arthalony scored all of her 13 points in the first half for a 31-6 halftime advantage. Aubrey Vogel added six points for the Bluejays (21-1, 3-0 Sangamo), ranked No. 7 in Class 2A.

Katelyn Truesdale and Abby Churchill had five points apiece for Riverton.

PLEASANT PLAINS 75, MASON CITY ILLINI CENTRAL 26: At Plains, the Cardinals led by 27 points at the half and rolled to a Sangamo Conference win.

Plains’ Anna Weber contributed to the fast start by netting 16 of her game-high 20 points in the first half. Madison Burke also had a big first half, scoring all of her 14 points by intermission.

Bailey Leach made a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 13 points, while Grace Sebatka was the fourth Plains player in double figures with 12.

Madison Hughes led Illini Central with 10 points.

AUBURN 46, WILLIAMSVILLE 34: At Doglio Gym, host Auburn finished on a 14-2 run to notch a Sangamo Conference win.

Addison Wheatley had six of her team-high 12 points in the final frame. Callie Gill and Grayson Allen had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Auburn improved to 11-11 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Char Gleason led the Bullets (6-11, 1-2) with 11 points.

GILLESPIE 81, VANDALIA 49: At Vandalia, Mia Brawner scored a career-high and school-record 45 points as the Miners dominated a South Central Conference game.

Brawner had 24 points by halftime and netted 21 more in the second half. She finished making 21 field goals, including one 3-pointer, and added a double-double to her career night with 11 steals.

Delaney Taylor and Ericka Gill added seven points apiece for Gillespie (16-6 overall, 4-1 in the SCC).

HAVANA 47, MANITO MIDWEST CENTRAL 27: At Havana, Josie Hughes made five field goals, went 6-for-6 from the free throw line and scored 16 points to lead the Ducks to a nonconference win.

Kaydi Miller had 13 points as Havana outscored Midwest Central 26-13 after halftime.

CARLINVILLE 48, PANA 29: At The Big House in Carlinville, the Cavaliers broke a tie game with a big second half in a South Central Conference contest.

The game was tied 15-15 at the break until Carlinville outscored Pana 33-19 in the second half. Four players finished in double figures for the Cavaliers, led by Jordyn Loveless, who netted 12 of her 14 points after halftime.

Kaitlyn Reels hit two 3-pointers and chipped in 12 points and teammates Hannah Gibson and Isabella Tiburzi contributed 10 apiece.

NOKOMIS 58, SANDOVAL 40: At Nokomis, Natalie Brownback had the green light and finished with 26 points in the nonconference win.

She shot 12 of 24 from the field and 2 of 7 from long range. Becca Hill also had two 3s for six points while Camryn Engelman had seven points.

Wednesday’s results

NOKOMIS 59, SHELBYVILLE 42: At Nokomis, junior Becca Hill went 5-for-10 from 3-point range and scored 15 points in a nonconference win.

Sophomore Kinley Stolte recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for NHS. Natalie Brownback was 4-for-6 from the floor and added eight points in the win.

Nokomis (14-8) outscored Shelbyville 30-18 in the second half.

WINCHESTER WEST CENTRAL 57, SOUTH COUNTY 24: At the Lady Spartan Classic in White Hall, South County was held to single digit scoring in each quarter and lost in the semifinals to the top-seeded Cougars.

Nine players from South County scored with Marissa Heironimus scoring a team-high five points. West Central’s Bryleigh Fox drained four 3-pointers and led all scorers with 23 points.
