Sports shorts: Flames silence Bulldogs for fourth shutout in five games

Apr. 25—Vance Haskins pitched a complete game on Wednesday to give the Lodi High baseball team its fourth shutout victory in the last five games.

Haskins struck out eight batters in seven innings, while allowing four hits in a 6-0 win over Tracy.

At the plate, Lodi tallied 14 hits, led by Gianni Bressesco's 3-for-4 day with a double and two runs. Brent Godina added a two-run home run.

Santino Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a double, Haskins and Charlie Casazza both went 2-for-4, and Rylan Takahashi, Preston Plath, Joseph Focacci and Caiden Andes each singled.

Lodi (15-8, 7-4 TCAL) will host Tracy (12-11, 4-7) in the series finale today at Zupo Field, with a 4 p.m. first pitch.

Varsity: St. Mary's 12, Tokay 3

The Tigers weren't able to threaten the Rams with their first TCAL loss on Wednesday, giving up 13 hits in the loss.

Tokay had four hits — two doubles from Tanner Johnson, a double from Brock Sell and a single from Blake Goen.

Tokay (9-15, 3-8 TCAL) and St. Mary's (19-5, 11-0 TCAL) will face off again today in Stockton. Wednesday's JV game went to St. Mary's, 21-3.

JV: Lodi 8, Tracy 1

Andrew Heinrich struck out seven batters across six innings in Wednesday's victory, and Lucas Crowder struck out two in a hitless inning of relief.

On offense, Lodi tallied five hits and nine walks, with singles by Jason Crawford, Heinrich, Jonathan Rtillas, Kaleb Meidinger and Jax Bennett. Trillas and Hunter Rau each walked twice.

VOLLEYBALL

Varsity boys: Lodi 3, Tokay 0

The Flames finished the regular season with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 victory over cross-town rival Tokay on Wednesday.

Lodi finished 2-8 in TCAL play for fourth place and 4-17 overall, while Tokay was 1-7 in the TCAL to tie for fifth, with a 4-19 overall record. The TCAL sends three teams to the playoffs, which will be St. Mary's (22-8, 10-0), West (13-7, 7-2) and Tracy (10-9, 6-3).

JV boys: Lodi 2, Tokay 0

The JV Flames finished off its second straight undefeated TCAL season with Wednesday's victory, courtesy of nine kills each from Jakob Bentz and Will Wood, three kills and a pair of aces from Tyler Protz, and two kills each from Cesar Roman and Eric De La Torre.

Lodi finished 10-0 in TCAL play, and 14-7 overall.

SOFTBALL

Varsity: Galt 8, Bradshaw 7

A three-run sixth inning put the Warriors on top Wednesday, while the defense held the Pride scoreless in the last three frames to hold on.

Rianna Mayer led the way for Galt at the plate, with a 4-for-4 day featuring a triple, two RBIs and two runs. Roxy Garcia went 2-for-3 with two runs, Rachael Parkinson went 2-for-5 with two runs, and Lexi Maldonado singled and drove in two runs.

In the circle, Maldonado allowed five runs (two earned) in six innings, and Parkinson pitched one inning.

Galt (4-12, 3-6 SVC) will host El Dorado today.

Varsity: Liberty Ranch 8, Union Mine 1

The Hawks scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning on Wednesday and never looked back, with seven hits and six Diamondback errors.

Natalie Vigil pitched a complete game for Liberty Ranch, striking out eight batters while allowing four hits. At the plate, Ysabella Granate went 2-for-4 with a home runs and two RBIs, Gracyn Graviette went 2-for-3, Kaitlynn Castro went 2-for-2, Khali Barrantes and Vigil each singled and scored twice, and Carlie Perez singled.

Liberty Ranch (10-5, 8-1 SVC) was scheduled to host El Dorado on Thursday, then play at Bradshaw Christian today.
