Sports scores, highlights: Durfee baseball nips Dartmouth for fourth straight victory

The spring high school season is halfway through for Fall River area teams.

Here's a look at scores and highlights from Thursday's action:

Baseball: Durfee 7, Dartmouth 5

LOCATION: Swansea

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Durfee, 8-9 (5-3 in Southeast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers won their fourth straight, coming from behind to beat league opponent Dartmouth at Joseph Case High School. Aidan Travers pitched three innings of relief for the win for Durfee. He gave up a run on two hits. Offensively, Alexis Montilla went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Josh Boria had a pair of hits, two walks and two RBI. The Hilltoppers rallied in the bottom of the sixth after giving up the lead. Matt Almeida led off the inning with a walk followed by a big run-scoring double from Montilla. Moments later, Boria and Sebastian Reis each added run-scoring singles.

NEXT UP: Durfee takes on Bishop Stang on Tuesday.

Baseball: Somerset Berkley 5, Seekonk 1

LOCATION: Somerset Berkley

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 14-3

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders defeated South Coast Conference opponent Seekonk at home. Will Dionne picked up the win in the circle for SBR after going five innings. He fanned four batters and threw 11 first-strike pitches. Camden Hoyle led the way offensively with three hits and three RBI. Tyler Costa also added an RBI.

NEXT UP: The Raiders travel to Case on Monday.

Baseball: Bishop Connolly 3, Wareham 2

LOCATION: Bishop Connolly

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Bishop Connolly, 10-4 (3-3 in Mayflower Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: Connor Travis singled on a 2-2 count to drive in the winning run, giving the Cougars a walkoff victory against Wareham at home. Jayden Souza got the win for Connolly in relief. The southpaw surrendered no runs, no hits, no walks over 2.1 innings while striking out six. Travis, who had three hits, started the game for the Cougars. He lasted 4.2 innings, allowing four hits, two runs, no walks while striking out six.

NEXT UP: Connolly takes on Avon on Friday.

Baseball: Case 11, Fairhaven 7

LOCATION: Fairhaven

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Case, 7-10 (3-8 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cardinals scored five runs in extra innings to defeat Fairhaven on the road. Dylan Amaral picked up his second relief win of the week for Case, allowing three earned runs and fanned one in four innings. Offensively, Adam Gracie (2 runs scored, RBI) and Will LeBoeuf (run scored, two RBI) each had three hits. Amaral (two RBI) had two hits including a double while Lucas Saltmarsh (run scored) also chipped in two hits. Christian Chapman doubled in a run to break a 6-6 tie in the top of the 10th.

NEXT UP: Case host Somerset Berkley on Monday.

Baseball: Upper Cape 10, Westport 6

LOCATION: Westport

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Westport, 12-4 (8 - 0 in MAC Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats lost their second consecutive game, falling to Upper Cape at home. Shawn Lavoie (4-1) lost his first decision of the season on the hill for Westport. On the day, the Wildcat defense committed seven miscues in the field. Offensively, Dylan Kirby was the lone bright spot, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

NEXT UP: The Wildcats host Diman on Tuesday.

Softball: Case 15, Bishop Stang 0

LOCATION: North Dartmouth

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Case, 16-0 (10-0 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The undefeated Cardinals mercy-ruled Bishop Stang on the road. The offense erupted for 17 hits. Leading the way for Case were Lexi Yost and Lily Picard who each had three hits. Yost was honored before the game for being a part of the Bishop Stang ice hockey 100-point club. Skye Dupre, Brianna Fontes, Jamie Moniz and Brooke Orton each finished with a pair of hits. Pitcher Hailey Berube allowed just two hits in five innings.

NEXT UP: The Cardinals travel to New Bedford on Saturday.

Softball: Tri-County 7, Westport 2

LOCATION: Franklin

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Westport, 8-8 (7-1 in Mayflower Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats dropped their game against Tri-County on the road. Braylin Montigny was 1-for-2 with an RBI double for Westport. Layla Bossie had an RBI single. Tess Silvia, Makayla Grace and Avery Avila each had a hit. Makayla Grace had five strikeouts in the circle.

NEXT UP: The Wildcats travel to Norfolk Aggie on Tuesday.

Boys Tennis: Somerset Berkley 5, Case 0

LOCATION: Swansea

RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 11-3 (9-3 in South Coast Conference); Case, 4-11 (3-9 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders swept both singles and doubles competition against Case on the road. Matt Carlesi won his singles debut, 6-1, 6-2, at third singles for SBR. Jackson Souza and Brayden Dorego won the closest match at first doubles, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 over Christian Libertore and Evan Pagliaroni, who played their strongest match of the season for the Cardinals.

NEXT UP: The Raiders travel to Durfee on Monday while Case travels to Westport Monday.

RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 6-8 (5-7 in South Coast Conference)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders took four of five matches against Case at home. First singles player Julia Lanczycki and third singles player Ava Aguiar won their matches. Caroline Puccini and Kori Tickel won at first doubles while Gabby Fernandes and Lauren Roosa won at second doubles.

NEXT UP: The Raiders host Durfee on Monday.

Girls Tennis: Fairhaven 5, Westport 0

LOCATION: Fairhaven

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Westport, 3-9 (3-3 in Mayflower Comprehensive)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Wildcats lost to Fairhaven in five matches. Kaelyn Jones kept it close at first singles for Westport, falling 3-6, 3-6. The second doubles team of Abby Forbes and Olivia Morris was close to getting a victory for the Wildcats but ultimately fell, 6-8.

NEXT UP: Westport faces Case on Monday.

Boys Outdoor Track: Diman at Mayflower State Vocational

LOCATION: Canton

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Diman, 4-3 (4-3 in Mayflower Large)

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals placed seventh overall in the Mayflower State Vocational championships. Cashton Richard was third in 400 (1:01.4) and third in javelin (127’ 6”) for Diman. Andrew Choquette (third, discus 116’ 7”), Nate Nascimento (sixth, 100 11.50), Phoenix Bennett (sixth, 200 24.01) and Will Ferreira (fourth, 2-mile 11:13)Also performing well were AJ Gesner , Paul Hart Ethan Cabral and Robert Hall.

NEXT UP: The Bengals will compete at the Division IV championships on May 26.

Girls Outdoor Track: Diman at Mayflower State Vocational

LOCATION: Canton

DATE: May 18

RECORD: Diman, 6-0-1

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals finished fourth at the Massachusetts State Vocational championship meet, scoring 57 points. Top performers for Diman was Inez Medeiros, who placed first place in the 200, setting a new school record (26.55). She also placed sixth in the 100 (13.32), and anchored the fourth place 4x400 relay team (4:39). Emma Foley took second in the triple jump (32'9), fifth place in long jump (16'1) and sixth in the 100 Hurdles (18.40). Kaitlyn Nickelson finished second in the high jump (5'0) while Grace Flattery came in fifth in the 400 hurdles (1:14), fifth in the high jump (4'10) and fourth place in the 4x400 (4:39). Angela Njoroge and Dakota Valente also were fourth place finishers in the 4x400 with Flattery and Medeiros (4:39). Katie Miranda took seventh place in the shot put with a new school record of 28' 3.75"

Outdoor Track: Somerset Berkley at MSTCA Coaches invitational

LOCATION: N/A

RECORD: N/A

HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders recently competed at the MSTCA Coaches invitational and received some great performances. Mia Gentile placed 32rd in the 100 hurdles with a time of 18.19. She also placed 11th in the 400 hurdles (1:11.56), qualifying for the state championships. Tyler Scanlon placed 21st in the 800 with a time of 2:08.06. Matthew Barboza took 15th place in the freshman mile with a time of 5:01.51 while Logan Cabral had a 19th place showing in the freshman mile (5:09.15). David Perry placed third in the freshman 100 dash (11.72), qualifying him to run the Freshman 100 dash at the New Balance National Championships.

NEXT UP: The Raiders compete at the South Coast Conference championship on Saturday.
