SouthCoast's top performers, scores and highlights for Dec. 17-23

It's was the second full week of winter sports for SouthCoast's nine schools — ApponequetBishop StangDartmouthFairhavenGNB Voc-TechNew BedfordOld ColonyOld Rochester and Wareham — and there were plenty of big games before the break.

Here's a look at the SouthCoast's top performers, scores and highlights for Dec. 17-23:

Saturday, Dec. 23

WRESTLING

New Bedford 52, Nashoba 28; New Bedford 51, Mt. Pleasant 6; New Bedford 56, Middleboro 24: Winning all three matches for the Whalers (5-0) were Anthony Bojorquez, Josiah Semedo, Anderson Dinis, Tayel Guzman and Nile Montiero.

BOYS HOCKEY

Silver Lake 3, Dartmouth 1: Will Gibson had the lone goal for Dartmouth.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Marshfield 3, Bishop Stang 0: Isabelle Duarte made 24 saves for Bishop Stang (2-1) while Samantha Souza received the Hard Hat Award.

Friday, Dec. 22

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Dartmouth 51, North Attleboro 30: Kat Cheesebro notched a game-high 35 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to power undefeated Dartmouth (4-0). Cheesebro is 37 points away from 1,000. Hailey Martins added four points and 16 rebounds while Kaelyn Zuber had eight points.

Old Rochester 67, West Bridgewater 30: Caroline Brogioli scored a team-high 16 points while Hannah Thorell added 12 and Alexis Rezendes and Amber Engel had nine points apiece for ORR (3-2, 2-0 SCC).

Apponequet 71, GNB Voc-Tech 45: CC Levrault scored a team-high 22 points for Apponequet (4-2, 2-0 SCC) and grabbed four rebounds. Ava Dixon had 12 points and seven rebounds while Brook Generazzo chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds. Kate Suneson added 10 points and three rebounds. Addison Taylor dished out nine assists. For GNB Voc-Tech (2-3, 0-2 SCC), freshman Jai-Ana Silva led all scorers with 24 points. Laila Pires added seven points while Olivia Reis chipped in with six.

Old Colony 31, Sturgis East 17: Lindsey Bacciocchi powered the Cougars (1-2) to their first win by scoring a team-high 14 points. Hailey Goldstein added six points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Old Colony 86, Sturgis East 42: Max Finney led the undefeated Cougars (4-0) with 18 points while Chase Lafountain added 12 and Chris Darcy chipped in with 10.

Apponequet 74, GNB Voc-Tech 49: The Lakers scored 30 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Will Levrault notched a team-high 22 points while Will Horton added 10 and Nathan Levesque chipped in with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Apponequet (2-2, 1-1 SCC). For Voc-Tech (1-3, 0-2 SCC), Jhaden Reis had 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Seth Bracey chipped in with nine points and six rebounds and Cazual Springer had four points and 10 rebounds.

Old Rochester 68, West Bridgewater 45: The Bulldogs (4-1, 2-0 SCC) captured their third straight win thanks to contributions from John Butler (16 points), Chase Besancon (14 points and eight rebounds), Zack Mourao (10 points) and Gavin Martin (eight points, 10 assists and seven rebounds).

St. Mary’s 54, Bishop Stang 49: Frank Vollaro notched 15 points, four rebounds and two assists while Tysen Teixeira added 12 points and five rebounds for Stang (1-3, 0-2 CCL). Dylan Hunt chipped in with nine points and three rebounds.

Bourne 64, Fairhaven 63: Ryan Ptaszenski scored a team-high 22 points, knocking down six 3-pointers, but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Devils (1-3) suffered their third straight loss. Jared Reardon and Josh Vieira both had 13 points.

Thursday, Dec. 21

BOYS BASKETBALL

Old Colony 70, Bristol-Plymouth 64: The Cougars (3-0) came back from a 12-point deficit in the first thanks to strong all-around games from Max Finney and Nick Fringuelli. Finney had 17 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks while Fringuelli had 19 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks and one steal. Chase Lafountain added 11 points and five rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wareham 44, Nantucket 19: Jordyn Elwood scored a team-high 13 points while Keira Pierre added nine and Lexi Gomes chipped in with eight as the undefeated Vikings improved to 5-0.

GIRLS SWIMMING

New Bedford 104, Apponequet 72: The Whalers (3-0) were led by double winners Serenity Coleman, Trinity Coleman, Annabelle Huston and Caroline Huston. Serenity Coleman took first in the 200 freestyle (2:11.97) and 500 freestyle (5:52.92) while Trinity Coleman was fastest in the 100 freestyle (1:00.03) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.85). Annabelle Huston won the 200 IM (2:34.85) and 100 butterfly (1:13.08) while Caroline Huston came in first in the 50 freestyle (28.02) and 100 backstroke (1:12.10). Piper Reis won diving (161.85 points).

BOYS SWIMMING

New Bedford 96, Apponequet 79: Winning for New Bedford (3-0) were Raphael Conde in the 200 freestyle (2:13.75), Alex Conde in the 200 IM (2:16.71), Manuel Martinez Martin in the 50 freestyle (30.84), Michael O’Leary in diving (131.30 points) and Cairon Nunez in the 500 freestyle (6:54.45). For Apponequet (1-3), Hunter Owen won the 100 butterfly (1:00.40) and 100 backstroke (1:08.61) while David Jope was first in the 100 freestyle (1:01.29) and Eugene Jung was fastest in the 100 breaststroke. The trio teamed up with Levi Jope to win the 400 freestyle relay (4:13.35).

GIRLS TRACK

Old Rochester 50, Somerset Berkley 36: Alexia Gonsalves won the mile (6:08.9) and 2-mile (13:25.3) while Emily Abbott took first in the 600 (1:51.5), Madison Conner won the 1,000 (3:28.0) and Rayn Laurdin was fastest in the 300 (47.9).

BOYS TRACK

Somerset Berkley 56, Old Rochester 30: Tyler Young won the 1,000 (2:49.3) and 2-mile (10:59.9) while Aidan Silk was first in the mile (5:02.6).

Wednesday, Dec. 20

BOYS BASKETBALL

New Bedford 71, Boston English 40: Dezmond Brunskill notched 15 points and nine rebounds to power the Whalers (1-1) to their first win of the season. Craig Baptista added 11 points while Joseph Goodine chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

Dighton-Rehoboth 59, Fairhaven 48: Hansen Zhao scored 29 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Devils (1-3) suffered their second straight loss. Josh Vieira added nine points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Fairhaven 42, Dighton-Rehoboth 21: The Blue Devils (1-1) captured their first victory of the year thanks to 12 points from Mikayla Smith and 10 points apiece from Ava Morrison and Brenna Dugan.

BOYS HOCKEY

Dartmouth 8, Bridgewater Raynham 2: Freshman Maddox Larocque notched his first two varsity goals while Aidan Cruz had two goals and three assists and Will Gibson chipped in with two goals and one assist for Dartmouth. Lucas DeSousa recorded his first goal with Dartmouth while Charlie Camisa added a goal. Ashton Machado saved 24 of the 25 shots he faced.

Apponequet 6, Chicopee 2: Ryan Vincent led the Lakers (2-2) with two goals and three assists while Cam Sylvia chipped in with two goals and one assist. Nate Nevega and Greg Francis each scored once.

Somerset Berkley 8, GNB Voc-Tech 1: Ayden Miranda had the lone goal for Voc-Tech (0-5, 0-3 SCC).

Bishop Stang 5, Middleboro 2: Eli Ikkela scored two goals, while Ciaran Galligan had one goal and two assists and Aidan Cousineau and Matt Burt each had one goal and one assist. Kyle Cousineau chipped in with two assists for Bishop Stang (3-1).

BOYS TRACK

GNB Voc-Tech 64, Apponequet 22: For Voc-Tech (2-0), Dan Ward won the mile and 1,000 while Jarred Quan was fastest in the 55 and 300 and Owen Viera won the 55 hurdles and high jump. AJ Algarin and Adrian Santos both qualified for states in the shot put with throws over 42 feet. Aneil Barnick won the mile for Apponequet (1-1).

Diman 86, Wareham 14: Winners for Wareham (0-2, 0-1) were Aiden Robert in the 55 hurdles (8.29) and Payton Calvin in the shot put (34-8.50).

GIRLS TRACK

Apponequet 52, GNB Voc-Tech 34: Morgan Hayward won the 600, shot put and 55 and finished second in the high jump to pace the Lakers (2-0). Apponequet’s other wins came from Leah McGee in the 300 and Lily Bertoncini in the high jump. Winners for GNB Voc-Tech (1-1) were Maddy Duarte in the mile, Shelby Ruffley in the 55 hurdles, Nevea Escobar in the 1,000 and Elana Aponte in the 2-mile.

Diman 75, Wareham 24: The lone winner for Wareham (0-2, 0-1) was Jolee Anderson in the shot put (32-7.5).

WRESTLING

New Bedford 39, Xaverian 30: The Whalers (2-0) upset Xaverian with wins from Anthony Bojorquez (106), Elizer Cirino (113), Miguel Gomes (138), Anderson Dinis (144), Angel Carmmenatty (150), Giovanny Velez (157), Prince Wright (165) and Forrester Thompson (175).

Tuesday, Dec. 19

GIRLS BASKETBALL

New Bedford 46, Falmouth 35: Lexi Thompson powered the Whalers (1-2) to their first win of the season with a team-high 21 points, connecting on 7 of 10 from the foul line. Alaysha Sylvia-Figueroa added 10 points while Alexis Rebello chipped in with six.

Apponequet 53, Somerset Berkley 46: Addison Taylor had a strong all-around game for the Apponequet (3-2) with 15 points, six assists and two steals. CC Levrault added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists while Ava Dixon chipped in with nine points, nine rebounds and two steals.

Old Rochester 80, GNB Voc-Tech 45: Hannah Thorell led the Bulldogs (2-2) with 18 points while Caroline Brogioli added 17, Emma Johnson had 15 and Emerson Gonet chipped in with 11 for a balanced offensive attack. For Voc-Tech (2-2, 0-1 SCC), Laila Pires led the way with 13 points while Jai-Ana Silva added 11 and Ella Costa chipped in with nine.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Wareham 74, Cardinal Spellman 54: The Vikings (3-0) used a strong defensive effort to win on the road. “We struggled from the outside early, but our defense and transition baskets kept us afloat until our outside shots started to fall,” said Wareham head coach Steve Faniel. “I thought the kids did a good job of matching their physicality and we made enough explosive runs to win the game.” Taj Lewin Pina had a team-high 13 points while Ajay Lopes added 12 points and nine rebounds. Aaron Cote chipped in with 11 points. Diego Mello had three assists and four rebounds. Antoine Crosson pulled down nine rebounds.

Bishop Stang 53, Westport 39: Frank Vollaro scored a team-high 11 points while Tysen Teixeira added nine for Stang (1-2, 0-1 CCL) as first-year head coach Jake Ashworth captured his first career win. Jack Durost and Dylan Hunt added eight points apiece.

Somerset Berkley 63, Apponequet 56: Nathan Levesque led the Lakers (1-2) with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Caiden Cyr chipped in with 13 points and Will Horton added 12 points.

Old Rochester 74, GNB Voc-Tech 39: Gavin Marin powered the Bulldogs (3-1) with 12 points, seven assists and four steals while Chase Besancon added 11 points and 10 rebounds. John Butler had 14 points and Zack Mourao chipped in with 11 points.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Bridgewater-Raynham 88, Apponequet 72: Maddie Voci and Lauren Bernaiche each won two individual events for the Lakers (1-2). Voci was first in the 200 IM (2:39.13) and 500 freestyle (6:29.93) while Bernaiche was fastest in the 50 freestyle (28.74) and 100 breaststroke (1:21.94). Apponequet also got a win from Charlotte Carvalho in the 200 freestyle (2:29.01). Carvalho, Voci and Bernaiche teamed up with Nora McClurkin to win the 200 freestyle relay (2:00.08) and 200 medley relay (2:16.38).

BOYS SWIMMING

Bridgewater-Raynham 85, Apponequet 73: Hunter Owen and Eugune Jung each won two individual events and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:45.92) along with Levi Jope and David Jope. Owen was first in the 200 freestyle (2:05.94) and 100 butterfly (1:01.66) while Jung was fastest in the 200 IM (2:20.69) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.39).

Monday, Dec. 18

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wareham 52, Bristol-Aggie 21: The Vikings are off to a 4-0 start. Jordyn Elwood led the way with 17 points, knocking down three 3-pointers. Johnny Tompkins added 12 points while Masaydes Perry chipped in with six points.

BOYS HOCKEY

ORR/Fairhaven 5, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Bulldogs (4-0) captured their fourth straight win thanks to two goals and one assist from Caleb Bousquet. Gavin Austin had his first varsity goal and added a pair of assists while Connor Galligan had three assists. Barrett Becotte and Connor Foley each had a goal.

Diman 10, GNB Voc-Tech 1: David Ferreira scored the lone goal for the Bears (0-4). Noah Tavares and Talon Allain each had an assist.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Franklin 52, Dartmouth 49: Adam Mogawer led Dartmouth (2-1) with 13 points while Logan Kennedy chipped in with eight and Jhoan Valdez had seven. Hunter Matteson scored six.
