Sixers stats: Joel Embiid doing things not seen since Wilt Chamberlain

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid is having a terrific season. He has put himself squarely in the MVP conversation averaging 27.7 points and 11.5 rebounds to begin the season and he has the Sixers at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Embiid had himself another huge game on Saturday scoring 33 points and 14 rebounds in a win over the Detroit Pistons on the road. That follows up two dominant efforts against the Boston Celtics where he had 42 points and 10 rebounds and then had 38 points and 11 rebounds.

It’s the fourth time of his career that he has had three straight games of 30 points and 10 rebounds. He joined Wilt Chamberlain and Charles Barkley as the only players in Sixers franchise history with as many as four such streaks.

Embiid will look to do so for a fourth straight game on Monday when they take on the Pistons again to finish up a two-game road series. The Sixers are at the top of the East and they need to continue to grow as a team.
